Which numbers should be unretired by the Chiefs

Pretty straightforward question here that comes from the other thread about the Chiefs basically running out of usable numbers.

Agreed, but let's not retire #15 just yet.

My pick. Also choked the Miami double overtime game away.

It's disrespectful to unretire numbers. Some of these numbers probably should not have been retired; however, it would be improper to go back now.

NFL should activate all numbers 50 years after the death of player who wore it.

One thing soccer has going for it is the idea certain jersey numbers are assigned to stand out players.

If I were Clark I'd stipulate any Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate can switch to a retired number depending on their position.

Mack Lee Hill and Stone Johnson's numbers should be unretired, IMO.

The only reason either was retired is because unfortunately, they died young. Stone Johnson only played in the preseason and I doubt that Lamar Hunt was looking 50 or 60 years down the line because the AFL was on shaky ground in the early days.

As for the others, I don't think they should be unretired because every one of them is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It would be weird seeing someone else wearing 16 or 58 and even 86 or 78.

I was going to propose something similar. I think uniforms should be retired for the player's life or 10 years, whichever is longer. I think you could spin it as an honor if the uniform started being worn again after the player passed away.

I'm in agreement with all or none. Having said that, Jan stands out as most undeserving. Glorifying a kicker? LOL, I think not.

If you were a Chiefs fan back in those days, he was a pretty big deal and won a lot of games. It is a shame he is remembered for the loss to Miami.

That being said, it has been long enough, time to unretire his number along with a few of the others like Mack Lee Hill and Stone Johnson.

Alright. That's a good response and the idea of rotating out is great. Some should be perm though but that's a criteria for a different time.

Happy Easter, HemiEd.

None. We don’t even have the most retired numbers.

I wonder if other team’s fan bases are proposing to kill the club’s history?

None. Can't we just add a hyphen or period and start a new set of numbers?

Just think of the fun the announcers would have with that...

It's sports and entertainment. It matters not.
