Free Mahomes

I don't care if Mahomes ever steps up in the pocket again in his career. Bail baby, bail. Improvising is when Patrick is at his best.

Watching Tyreek run five yards route all night long. WTF?

I don't want to see a balanced pass/run offense. Pass pass pass. We started running on first down before teams stopped our down field passing. We volunteered for a diminished offense.

Pile the pressure on Patrick. Give him weapons running longer routes. Backyard football for the win. Make him put the team on his back. He'll come through.

I welcome them watching Mahomes during a scramble because Reek will be open.

This nonsense about Patrick needing to sit it the pocket and hit Tyreek on a five yard route just isn't a winning formula. The Chiefs changed before defenses stopped them.

One play.

But is has worked dozens of times over the last three seasons.

Mahomes escaped the pocket plenty of times today...and then threw into the ground or a WR dropped it or some other bullshit.

We have a losing record right now. Just for fun, give me a game without a single running play just to see what happens.

It's 2021. That's what the NFL is shooting for anyway.

I would also suspect it will work a bit more often against a defense that isn’t the best in the league in 2021.

Mahomes used to play using instinct.

Is it possible he's thinking too much?

A big worry for me is the number of plays Mahomes has been giving up on. Peak Mahomes would find a receiver and launch the ball, and good things happened. I can't count the number of balls he threw in the dirt tonight "to avoid interceptions". That's not the Mahomes we know and love. Is someone on the coaching staff ruining him?

I agree but I think the coaching staff is making him think too much.

Patrick, don't abandon the pocket. Patrick, just take what the defense is giving you. Patrick, you don't have to be the hero every week. Patrick, we're going to burn first down on key drives by running the ball, giving you one less chance per series to do your thing.

WTF? Why fix what wasn't broken.

Uh...those passes weren't to avoid interceptions. He was trying to hit receivers and was inaccurate and in at least one case, he thought Hardman would come back more.

Yeah, what changed from the last three years? I'm not buying that he's now Alex Smith.

We had a WR that could keep teams from committing to that 2 deep look. Right now we don't so teams are just camping their safeties 20 yards away.

I don't think the coaching staff has been the same since the Brett Reid thing. We just don't seem as locked in.

That said, there's a reality that Tampa punched us in the mouth. They were the first team that we tried to play our game on, and it just didn't work. And we haven't been the same since. Same thing happened to the 2001 Rams. When you're at the top everyone's building and practicing to do what takes you down, and everybody's doing it now. It's pretty clear everyone is selling out to take away the things we do well, and we just can't capitalize on the weaknesses that opens up. When you can put 3 or 4 guys up front and stop the run and the short passing game, you can drop 7 or 8 guys in coverage, double team or shade Hill and Kelce and still have more than enough guys to cover everyone else.

It also doesn't help that refs don't protect Mahomes so guys can throw cheap shots and nothing happens.
