What's your opinion on bowl opt outs?

Bowl season used to be a good time to watch NFL prospects for the upcoming draft.

Now it seems like any player with NFL prospects doesn't even play, opting out to avoid the risk of an injury.

Do you agree with this practice? It's now commonplace and accepted.

One aspect that isn't publicized enough is an NFL prospect bailing on their teammates. Imagine going through the program for four, five years, being a senior and then your best player bails. You want to finish your college career with a win.

I know college football coaches are scumbags and these colleges make a killing off these players but it just doesn't seem right to me.

These players chose to play a team sport. They decide to be an individual when it's convenient for them. Why bail at the bowl game? Why don't they put four games of tape on film and bail then? If the NFL and their bank account is what matters, what's the purpose of playing the whole regular season and getting an injury?

**** me culture. Does a team even matter anymore?

You know how to get that trend to stop?

By paying the players for the product they are providing.

Thecc v2 way college football is structured by the ncaa is complete bs

Imaging being a first round talent and blowing out your ACL in the Cheez-Its aged cheddar bowl

Yes, if a college player has declared from the draft it's likely their best decision.

If the bowl game is 1 of the 4 that decides the national champion they will likely regret not playing at some point in their life but it would still be the right financial choice.

One of the reasons why college coaches like bowls is it gives them extra weeks to develop the younger players.

A big part of the bowls are getting a head start on the next season and developing younger players.

Don’t like it one bit. But can’t blame the players at all. Overall it’s sucks for the fans and teammates.

Futures is relative though.

The prospects that log 8-10 years of NFL service time are the exceptional ones.

Most of the prospects fall in the 2-4 year career range and you never hear from them again.

It's just too bad that advisors and agents are controlling them instead of letting them be kids.

Imagine not wanting to play a football game? Football games are the fun part of the sport. They practice so much. Football games are finite.

It just seems like a screwed up world when a kid choses not to play in a football game because of the advice of an agent.

I also wonder if we'll see a junior with enough good film on tape sit out the whole season. I guess it already happened with Penei Sewell and Micah Parsons but that was in a COVID year, so I don't know it counts.

Why not skip the regular season games and just play in the bowl? Why is the bowl game so different.

A player skipping a bowl, may be enough to knock them down a round or so if I was a GM. ESPECIALLY if it was a QB or a captain of the college team. Integrity matters. Character matters.

That shouldn't happen either but some job openings are contingent of them doing that so they are kind of forced to quit early. Nobody forcing the RB of the #5 team to sit out of a big BCS style bowl.

I find it humorous that people feel it is "quitting" on their team. Get out of here with that! They played the entire year and a bowl game is just a money grab for the schools, it is not like they get a reward for winning a bowl game. If they get injured, it could cost them a chance to be drafted and a lot of money.

This is their "career" and people think it is selfish to think of themselves when they opt out of a bowl game! It is not like players are opting out of the playoffs.. they want to win the CFB Championship just not concerned with winning the Cheezit Who Gives a **** Bowl

Wasn’t there a debate about whether or not Clowney would sit out his last year of college?

Not a fan.

I hear a lot of "Dont like it, but I get it. That is where I land.

I do think if you bail on your team, you have no right to be there for the game. Last night-they kept showing some player that decided not to play. Why is he there? Just more of a distraction.

The only plus is getting playing time. The QB from Purdue kicked ass last night.

These guys are potentially going to make millions playing in the NFL, or they can...

Play a meaningless game to further line the pockets of the schools who couldn't give 2 shits whether you live or die.

I'd sit it out too.

Yeah, there's always this assumption that teammates are all angry and butthurt about it, yet we're all sitting here saying it makes complete sense.

Teammates are probably well aware most bowl games are pointless and if nothing else they get more playing time... and if Patrick Mahomes is my teammate, I'm telling that guy to do what's best for him, because I would do the same if I were in his shoes.
