Its cliché' but with Mahomes as your QB the SB is always in play. I expected the division to be a knockdown drag out but expected it would only make them better down the stretch.

Turns out they were just really good damn near the entire season while most of the division was bad. KC only loses when they shoot themselves in the foot.

If I had to pick a game, then the opener against the Cards... take all the offseason worry over Tyreek and bullshit with how every team in the division got far better and the Chiefs got worse, toss it aside, throw for 360 and 5 touchdowns.

It's the start I expected after they lost to the Bucs in the SB, to sort of put the league on notice, as Mitch said at the end of the AFCCG, "you will have to deal with the Chiefs".

Mahomes + Reid was always going to be a threat because they can win a game against any odds.

I was thinking all offseason that the offense might be better this year and it turned out to be so, at least it did not get any worse. The defense on paper was much better.

I think we should have been regarded as contenders by all preseason but the low effort media nonsense about Hill leaving caused a lot of people to think otherwise.

Start of training camp when they signed Dunlap. They’d hit almost every other need by then.

Good to see one person in this thread being honest and not a complete homer.

Sure, you hope the team can get there every year and of course, Patrick makes that chance exponentially higher but there were some pretty serious question marks about KC's pass rush and especially the secondary going into this year. To say "I knew it all along" is absolutely silly.

Playing Buffalo close in Week 6 put the seed in my head that maybe this team was better than I thought it would be.

Playing Cincinnati close, and really the Chiefs should have won it, in Week 13
sold me that this team at least had the potential to get to the Super Bowl.

It was absolute honesty. I always considered this a reloading year. We drafted pretty solid floor guys, but also guys who may have taken some adjustment time. Watson and Pacheco came alive fast, cook and chenal worked in then Williams and Moore showed up last week when it really mattered. We had not put complete games back to back all year until the playoffs. If we had drawn anyone but the Jags I would have had doubts getting out of the divisional round.

Also as many know I’ve been a massive Mahomes homer even before drafting him. I’m aware that with him our windows always open. Mid season I would have told you we would only make the Super Bowl if he gave us a series of over my dead body games. The last two weeks have been a pleasant surprise. We’ve got a tall task ahead that I’m a little pessimistic about.

Whenever I saw Toney on the field the first time.

Before that game, it was becoming obvious that teams were playing a lot more man against us and that Kelce was really our only consistent man-beater receiver. And the offense was stalling with more frequency as more teams were just manning up our WRs.

Then Toney showed up and I knew that, barring injury, the Chiefs finally had assembled enough pieces offensively to beat BUF or CIN, or any NFC contender. That was assuming that the OL/defense would sort itself out as I predicted before the season started, which has largely come to fruition now.

Agree with this, but will add that seeing McDuffy back on the field healthy was a huge moment as well.

Facts. Trent coming back was a big deal. It allowed Spags to have Sneed follow the WR1 around, have McDuffie play the slot more consistently, which gave Spags the ability to call split safety looks a lot more often. Basically gave the defense a lot more flexibility about what coverage/schemes/alignments they could use.

But Toney gives the offense a whole other gear, makes it much more explosive than it is without him.

The 49er game, they were supposed to be one of the best teams in the league and we just destroyed them. Nick Bosa got embarrassed on those Hardman sweeps again and again.
