NY Post: How the Chiefs Turned their Season Around

https://nypost.com/2024/02/07/sports...ss-to-raiders/

Raiders loss was the turning point...

Quote:
“We responded after that loss. I can point back to that as a moment for us,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “The team came together after that and stepped up to adversity.”

The Chiefs’ defense has played well all season. But the offense has picked things up since that Raiders loss.

Though Chiefs players are careful not to get to specific, they did offer up some changes that were made.

Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling said they tightened up the receiver rotation.

Instead of constantly substituting players, the Chiefs have kept players in the game even if the play call is not specific to them.

“We haven’t really done anything that has schematically changed,” Valdes-Scantling said. “We’re still running a lot of the same plays that we’ve been running all year. It’s more the in and out of personnel. We’ve got a bunch of receivers that can play. If you have seven guys up, everybody wants to play.

“It was just trying to figure out ways to get guys on the field, keep them on the field, not have to go in for a play, out for a play. That’s helped us out.”

The Chiefs have gotten better individual performances, as well.

The Miami game shows just how much an even semi legit threat would help. Mecole was crazy open all game but he adjusts to the ball like Andre featherstone

That would require Andy firing/demoting Nagy, and I don’t think that’s going to happen

Nagy is gonna be there until he decides to move on or another team decides to mercifully hire him away

Losing to the Raiders is intolerable to anyone and causes you to re-evaluate everything
Isn't it ironic that the Raiders caused the Chiefs to re-evaluate everything they were doing and now we're playing a SB in their stadium? You just know that fact has to be killing Raiders fans.

The Raiders loss not only helped the Chiefs in the long run, it also was probably the reason why Antonio Pierce got hired to be the full time HC....in the end though, the Raiders are going to be the Raiders and still end up in last place in the AFCW.

I still don't think Nagy is the issue. Reid micromanages the offense and if there was a problem, he's on top of solving it. So any issue we had this year is a Reid issue and we know reid is as good as it gets. We can do better than embree but I think he just got elevated too fast too soon. Just get him an experienced coach to co-coach the offense.

Get Nagy some reasonable talent in the back of the rotation and don't play this musical chairs stuff and he will be fine next year.

Having young guys on the field probably contributed to too much rotation at the WR position. Toney, Sky and Rice. Once Rice showed he had picked up the offense he became the guy. Toney and Sky not so much. It affected MVS' snaps apparently. The offense is Pacheco, Rice and Kelce. Everyone else are roll players. And when MVS catches the ball it helps a bunch!

Moore Toney and MVS have all made important plays at important times, but overall they were all bad additions to this team. MVS is probably the best of the 3 turds, but as soon as Toney and Moore were phased out the offense got better. Once the Chiefs ran the ball more, the offense got better. They were still completely shut out an entire half of football. There's no excuse for that. Need to score tuds on Sun.

Moore didn't do anything his rookie season except come up big on a couple plays in the SB. Thinking that was gonna be a spark that ignited his play to the next level, it just didn't happen. People really were expecting him to be a legit #2WR on this team that could be lined up almost anywhere. Never happened. Giants fans were glad to get rid of Toney due to his inabilities to be consistent. Shows greatness at times but for every great play he makes he makes about 5-6 bad plays. With the margin of error being so small in NFL, offense can't afford his shenanigans. MVS has been the best of the bunch but he's always gonna have the case of the dropsies. He had them in GB and he continued to have them this season. He can make some plays and stretch the field some and I hope he can this Sun.

It’s been a pretty remarkable change from that Christmas Day fiasco. Very impressive job by Andy & his assistant coaches to get this deal turned around.

Even though they've been irrelevant for years I still remember the '90s.

Also, Kelce seems to have gotten healed up with whatever was ailing him by taking week 18 off, and you can see he's much better in the playoffs (thus far).

Not likely. If Bienemy does return (which i would 100% support) he'd be a positional coach like WR/RB or Co-OC or something of that sort.
