Bartee is still referenced here as a punchline. Maybe the worst DB I've ever seen for the Chiefs. Certainly when you consider his draft status as a 2nd rounder.

I don't remember Dennis, Alford, or Kitchings. I'm guessing back then CP wasn't lauding every 5th to 7th round pick as a future Hall of Famer, unlike nowadays.

No, it was the undrafted guys who were always future HOFers back then.

I can still name some Vermeil nobody WRs that I thought were going to be really good.

I also remember how people kind of hated Dante Hall at first. Gunther drafted him to be a RB (which he was in college) and after doing nothing and kind of mucking around the bottom of the roster, people just had enough of his shit going into the 2002 season.

Bob Dole was the one who rationally told us that Dante was going to be the starting kick returner, and we all booed and hissed at him. He told us that Hall was the only returner who consistently caught the kick. He was 100% correct, and a year later the rest is history.

His NFL Europe coaches were smarter than Gunther and used him as a returner and WR, like he should have been all along.

Yep. 100 percent. People forget about that now. But his first two seasons were rough.
