Playoffs?

Straight up or down. No qualifiers, no ifs ands or buts. Not even a “Bite Me, Gaz” option. Sure, it depends on lots of factors, so make your best guess as to how those factors will play out and lay down your vote.

Will the Chiefs be in the playoffs this season?

I believe that, barring injuries, the O will rebound to approx. what they were last year.

I think the D will continue to show some improvement in the next several weeks--and here's where it gets tricky: Sooner or later--sooner, IMO--the defense is going to hit a *glass ceiling* due to limitations of talent and speed. Now, how many wins can we get before then?

Lastly, starting the final week of November, we play our division rivals five of the last six contests. If we can sweep through our AFCW rivals late in the season--and maybe win that MNF game at Tennessee in Dec--we could bullrush right into a AFCW Championship...

That's about as optimistic as it gets 'round these parts.

Barring more injuries? Damn! I think we have enough right now to put us in serious trouble. Kennison is questionable, Holmes is questionable, Gonzo isn't 100%, Morton isn't full strength, Wilson is out, Boerighter is out, and after Houston we go to Baltimore, thankfully have a BYE, go to Jacksonville, and have Atlanta and the Colts comming into Arrowhead.

Houstons defense is a top 15 defense, and Baltimore and Jax are about as good as they come. All three are probably licking their chops to get a shot at us right now. The other two don't have great defenses, but it may take 49 points per game to outscore those two.

Now the offense may rebound to what they were last year. But by the time everybody injured right now is healed up, it may be to late.

My choice of words was poor. I should have said 'assuming we heal up from injuries'...

I doubt if Holmes injury is serious enough that he misses more than one game--if he doesn't play Sunday.

Kennison--I hope he's back soon. The WR corps is absolutely nothing w/o someone to stretch the field w/ speed. I trust the Chiefs FO when they say TG's ailment won't affect his on-the-field play. It doesn't look like it has so far, IMO.

All we ccan do is hope that Morton gets in synch with Green soon. I certainly am wishing a speedy recovery for Wilson. He could add another dimension to this O the 2nd half of the season.

IOW, I don't think the offense will be the deciding factor in whether the Chiefs see the post-season...

The team I know exists can make the playoffs for certain. The team I've seen with my own eyes in the past two weeks have absolutely no hope of the playoffs. Depends on which team shows up in the coming weeks. I wouldn't bet a plug nickel either way.

I'm with you on the first part. Not so sure on the Gonzo part. He sure isn't getting open very often. Even in 1-on-1 coverage from LB's.

I gotta say folks... from the enemies perspective, the only way any team from the crappy West makes the playoffs is by winning the division... There will be no wildcard hopes IMO...

That being said, I still think that my Broncos are a 9-7 squad this year and if you guys can manage to survive these early season woes and sneak in a win or two in games you should lose (ala @ Baltimore last year), then yes, you will take the division...

But that also reflects how bad the West really is this year where either a 9-7 or 10-6 squad could win the division outright...

Now, if you guys aquire a solid WR... all bets are off...

If we can get back to 2-2 by the bye week (and I really believe we can)... I think we'll be in pretty good shape considering. I hate to make any guesses at this point though... I just don't know. Last year we got off to such a good start all we could do was look ahead and wonder if we would go undefeated.... this year it's really gotta be one week at a time, see what happens, and add it all up when it's over.

I do think this defense will get better as the season moves along... and the one thing we do have in our pocket is the fact that the rest of our divisional games come in the 2nd half of the season... and hopefully by then everybody's healthy, Priest... Kennison.. Kris Wilson, etc.... if we can just hang in there now and somehow just stay around .500 for a 2nd half run, we still can control our destiny in this division.

I voted yes, but only because the AFC West is so iffy. I believe the D will improve, there just has been no conistency in players all preseason and even into the year. I do fear the injury bug may be our downfall this year.

Pretty much how I feel - The only offensive threats trhat we have can be dealt with by defenses. It's been proven that Holmes can have a monster game and the CHIEFS still LOSE cause Gonzo will be doubled and we have no other real threat in the passing game that can get open. Now, with Kennison gone, that's worse.

He Pez,
I understand your take, but please explain how we should have lost to B-More last year? Keep in mind thatwe NEVER trailed in that game...

FWIW _ also agree that IF we get a legit WR, we'll be in the drivers seat.

Playoffs? Don't talk to me about playoffs. Can't do diddly poo on offense, can't do diddly poo on defense. Playoffs? I'm just trying to win a game!
