LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.

The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.

Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

Leach was suspended by the university on Monday while the school investigated allegations that he mistreated an injured player.

Receiver Adam James alleges Leach twice confined him to small, dark spaces during practice after the player was diagnosed with a concussion.

Texas Tech plays Michigan State on Saturday in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

You claimed that you did participate in sports. Even at a lower level (high school football I believe you said) if a player cannot participate in practice are they not generally to be at practice anyway if opportunity presents?

So he was doing the kid a favor? When Warren Moon was with the Vikings, he was caught up in a domestic dispute with his wife wherein he choked her. She had the bruises on her neck to prove it. His defense was that he was choking her "to help calm her down because she was acting irrational". This almost seems like the same defense.

I think it was a good decision. We have our pep back now. We practice hard this week. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he's gone."

Cornerback Taylor Charbonnet, to ESPN: "The players make this team, not one coach. As Adam's friend, I didn't like it at all what [Leach] did. He was my brother and I didn't agree with it. I don't know why [Leach] did that. But I know we our fully behind [interim] coach Ruffin [McNeil]. We love him and support him."

Perry is also a nobody on the team. KCBD in Lubbock is reporting that there were players that wanted to sit out the bowl game in protest. Regardless.. I"m done with the soap Oprah for the night. Headed to SA in the morning.

It's ludicrous to fire any coach over circumstances like this. The kid is obviously an underacheiver, and it was reported that he had shown contempt for the coaching staff in the past, telling them that they didn't know "how to coach". His being segregated is the lightest punishment I think could be doled out, and it was only after he whined about the sunlight bothering him that it was done.

The kid is a pussy straight up. Everyone wants more playing time. The way to go about getting more is to work harder, not to sulk and complain to his daddy. Leach was doing something for him that his father apparently never did. Try to make a man of him, and make him accountable for his own actions.

Leach's firing had nothing to do with this incident. The administration already had it out for him, and this was just an excuse to act on it.

And if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Football is NOT for pussies, and weak minded individules. On any level. It's a combat sport, and thats why certain people find it to be offensive to their delicate sensibilites. These people should probably look into baseball as their primary source of sports entertainment. It's a gentlemans game.
