You want to start cleaning up this site, start with booting the "NFL is rigged" posters and especially the "Mahomes purposely tanked the AFC Championship game" posters.

No. Taco sells a product. I won't mention that product, but it's not a product you can hold in your hands, but you can hold it in your head if you are that crazy. He uses simple marketing techniques in content creation. He is a social media influencer of the political kind, rather than a shaking your ass kind.

Voted yes unfortunately, as it has become too toxic. I blame Bowser.

I have it hidden so it doesn't directly affect me much, but I voted yes because I have hope (if "no politics" was enforced in the lounge) some of our most toxic, insufferable posters might simply leave. Rainman's points about the embarrassment of having it attached to the main board and the idea of providing a harmful service to the people that post there influenced my vote as well.

Here's a great "teaching moment" for yourselves...especially considering the context of the very thread it's posted in.

Several posters, including myself, were prematurely banned from the main page C19 thread. I'm guessing the logic was "spreading misinformation"...misinformation that ultimately proved to be true. You essentially muted the debate into a one-sided circle jerk...much of which was ACTUALLY misinformation in retrospect....the irony.

"Trust the Science" has been replaced with "Misinformation"....so who is to say what is being labeled as misinformation in 2022 wont be proven true in the future?

Recent history says it's likely...

So if DC gets nuked, will posters post counts drop? That would make for some enormous drops for some folk.

Likely me as well.

I voted no because I think for a lot of people that subforum is the only place where they're ever exposed to the other side's viewpoint. That has to be worth something imo, despite all the rancor and misinfo that goes on.

See that simply isn't so, we are NOT all working toward the same thing... at all

I could now make a veeery long list of things this nation is fundamentally opposed about, but I won't because that might get me in trouble for politics in the lounge

Suffice it to say, we are not at all wanting the same things

I think you have a problem with the methods more than you have a problem with the concept. I'd say 80% of anything I've ever said around here is in response to something else (it's why I rarely free-form write or start threads) and its usually in contradiction to that something else. I find it boring to just talk for the sake of talking.

But I find persuasion and crafting/refining a position to be a worthwhile endeavor. And I think FAR more often than not I do so in a pretty rational but undeniably 'biased' way.

Bias isn't a problem. Persuasion isn't a problem. We all have the former and there's no harm in the latter provided that you do so in a way that informs (rather than just giving people catchy nicknames and then calling them nazis).

And hell, maybe I've been wrong all this time and that's not why people have these conversations. In which case I guess I understand the push-back as to DC more.

But what the heck is the point in just shouting into your own echo chamber? Or spouting truisms? Because if that's not what you're doing, then your intent IS to persuade, no?
What I meant by "starting in the middle" is not assuming you know everything about a topic, and should have specifically said "instead of STARTING by tugging people into their corner".

Ask questions and gain perspective rather than simply pigeonhole every thought into your own ideologies.

Take this thread.... instead of simply shouting "cAnCeL cUlTuRe!!" and assuming everyone thinks exactly the same with no gray area, one could ask.... why do you think DC is a cesspool? What do people think are the worst parts of DC? What would be some ideas to fix these things as opposed to shutting it down?

A DC regular may not see anything wrong with DC... but we already know that.

If someone has already determined my opinions of something before I even detail it, because I'm just a cancel culture liberal, is there really any point in starting the discussion with that person?

But, if there's an ounce of willingness to gain perspective first, it would go much further in following up with your own perspective, any of your own frustrations, concerns, etc.

Both parties would get much further in persuading each other... because I'm sure as hell never going to say there's NOTHING wrong with DC and I'm never going to convince others that it should go away for good, but there's probably far more common ground than people realize.
