Let's Talk about Houston (Divisional Round edition)

I'm guessing our game against Houston will be on Saturday....this is big, since it would give us an extra day before the AFCCG and either Buffalo/Baltimore would have to travel to Arrowhead.

Update: 3:30 CST, Saturday January 18

I liked Metchie coming out but he's basically the same player now as he was then.

Is it weird that I wouldn't be completely panicking if it was Mahomes coming out with those weapons?

And my best hypothesis is that he's willing to run so like Jackson, teams are much less aggressive with their pass rush against him and the coverages they use are similarly passive to make sure the DBs can keep an eye on him.

That sort of thing does cut both ways (nothing is perfect) in that it makes the quick game more difficult. If you're not sending aggressive pressure and your DBs are playing shallow zones, you're going to have more time but you're also going to NEED more time.

That's why all the quick passing QBs we've seen over the years are relatively stationary QBs. It's the way the offense responds to these teams trying to protect against QB runs.

Mahomes can run - but typically doesn't. And now with Worthy and Brown, they can't be super aggressive with their coverages.

So the combination of those things tells me that Houston will absolutely use aggressive pass rushes and they're going to leave some of those shorter throws available to attack them if/when they are.

I think we MUST use the shorter passing game as the primary focus with the deep ball (again, off those one cut and go concepts we dissected Pittsburgh with) as a changeup.

I suspect we will.
I think you're right. Allen's mobility and willingness to constantly run affects the way teams defend the Bills. They are less aggressive rushing the passer, they devote more resources to spying Allen, and it makes that OL's job a lot easier. (Brown and Dawkins are also both really good at "timing" their jump out of the snap, which helps a lot - especially when Cris Collinsworth doesn't spend an entire broadcast complaining about it).

I'm sure Houston will send the house. I hope they do. Mahomes will make the adjustments and get into the plays that work against it.

Nico Collins kinda needs the play to develop and he's a bigger guy obviously. Stroud is going to be sooo confused with what Spags throws at him. As you said Hollywood and Hopkins won't be used 30-50% of the time and we will throw the kitchen sink at them at least in the first half. Chris Jones rested. Watson returning and not being 100% or Humphries whiffing is the only thing I worry about other than just unlucky plays.
Yeah, it's the best matchup for KC, IMO. Yeah, Houston closed that game strong against the Chargers, but that was more Chargers Chargering, and a bad offensive coordinator getting exposed by playoff teams like he always does. Before that matchup last weekend, the Texans had looked awful-awful for a month solid.

12/32 points directly off of bad turnovers by the Chargers. Four INTs. Chiefs aren't going to make it as easy for them as Herbert did.

Expecting a win because I think our defense handles Texans offense.

Just want to see the offense get into playoff mode and put it all together (Hollywood and DHop get more snaps and targets).

I have some nerves about this game, and it's only Tuesday.

I fully expect a Chiefs win.

There is no indication this will happen, but imagine Mahomes goes nuclear this postseason. Nothing but blowouts.
