The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I would never do this.

Psychologically it feels too hard.

Plus I like the idea of getting in my workout on the days that I eat.

I never eat before going to the gym, and I don't get hungry if I don't eat. It's really no big deal to me. I use to feel that way but once I realized my mind was playing tricks on me, it was pretty easy to discard.

Those guys (Brad and John) really only do the IF thing twice a week on non-lifting days. The other days are just "Eat sensible" days. I don't fast on hard workout days, either. I did today, because it was yoga, and yoga is easy. But it's usually leg day and I don't fast then. I usually fast on Sundays and Saturdays.

I'll switch it and eat tomorrow. I'm around 2300 calories for the last 2 days, so I'm pleased with that. ****. Normally I lift on M-W-F but my schedule got screwed up this week. Maybe I'll fast tomorrow and just lift Friday as normal. Meh, it doesn't really matter. I'll do whatever I feel like in the morning and then do the other the day after.

So, twice a week is your recommendation? Or every other day like GoChiefs is doing?

According to my bodybugg my caloric deficit over the last 2 days is over 5300 calories, and I didn't go to the gym today. IMF FTW!

I've been keeping track of what I eat this week, part of trying to change what I've been doing...

I don't keep track of calories as a rule, but I ran today's numbers just out of curiousity. Today was the first day I've really felt out of sorts - my stomach was a little iffy this morning and I felt tired and weak at the end of my walk after work - so I was curious in a general sense (I think the stomach is due to the diet adjustment, but I'm just tired because I'm tired...). Turns out I totaled about 1700 calories for the day, and about 1000 of that was after work ended four hours ago (chicken about 10 pm and then eggs/english muffins a few minutes ago). Been in that same general area all week, except for Monday, which I'm guessing was closer to 2500 calories.

In any case, I didn't realize just how drastic a reduction in calories my new regime was (I regularly eat single meals with more calories than I've been taking in in a day this week), or how few calories there really are in fruits and salad. I basically ate constantly while I was at work (@6 hours), but it didn't total 500 calories between the orange, berries and salad. So I may to spread some of those calories into the beginning and middle of the day. Because I seem feel best at this time of night, right after the time of day when I tend to eat the most.

Whatever I decide to do, this is a pretty severe change for me, and I'm curious to see what the results will be on the scale after a couple of months. I've sort of half-assed it in the past as far as diet goes, and this is the first time I've really made an effort to eat raw, unprocessed foods for any length of time. I like it so far, although I'm going to briefly hop off the healthy wagon tomorrow night, I have a feeling (going to see two movies - I smell popcorn in my future).

You probably like soup more than I do, but I don't think that's the first thing I'd have coming off a fast. I'm more of a water and saltines kind of guy to make sure my stomach is settled before I go for more solid regular food. I could see soup making me feel really ill.

Don't know why I'm eating so many plants today. Sitting down with 4 heads of broccoli (that's a shitload of broccoli) and some fat-free dressing (about 4 tablespoons, or 90 cals worth).

Broccoli is one of those things that I will continue to eat, but will never, ever like. Especially since I'm not allowed to drench it in cheese.

I've encountered ass that tastes better than broccoli. Literally.

But, hey, it could be worse. It could be cauliflower.

I think broccoli is ****ing delicious. I like it raw with a bit of dressing, but my favorite is steamed broccoli with a little bit of butter and plenty of kosher salt. I could eat steamed broccoli like that all day long. We buy like 28 cups of broccoli per week lol
