Geno Smith vs Alex Smith - It's on.

It's on now. Geno Smith is probably going to be starting for the Jets this season.

Alex Smith will be the Chiefs QB for the forseeable future. If he's a success, we'll probably get five good years out of him.

So who's gonna win more NFL games over that time period?

Put your ten pounders on the table and make a vote

Alex: 11 wins
Geno: 8 wins

Geno 470 yards 1-TD and 4-ints ...

If Alex had 1 TD and 4 Ints after week two, this place would have a meltdown.

You wanna see an arm?

But tribe, you ask: Does he move well? Throw well on the run?

All Geno has are physical skills, and Brays are better.

Geno is gonna get crushed this season

Ill be skipping along knowing we can develop Bray farther than Geno will get the chance to make it, after being thrust in too soon.

Luck was the most NFL ready QB since Elway and still posted 3 interceptions his 1st game. Otherwise, you would like to think an 8 year NFL vet would do a bit better than a raw rookie on a worse team with inferior coaching.

Why do you idiots constantly want to compare a rookie to a 9 year NFL vet?

Look, they are held to different standards. You disagree?

It's OK for Geno to go through growing pains.

It's NOT OK for Alex to do the same.

The OP give both QBs a 5 year window, not a 2 game window.

5 years.

Geno can suck dick his entire first year and still compare favorably with Alex over the 5 year window given by the OP. I'm not predicting that. At the very least I would certainly expect Alex to play better than an NFL rookie his first year or 2.

OP did not even make a QB comparison or he would have asked who had more yards & TDs and higher passer rating?

Instead he asked who would lead his team to more wins? The jury is clearly out on that one.

The fact is, Geno is the clear underdog here as we KNOW Alex Smith is a successful journeyman QB and, barring injury, will still be starting under center for some team. Geno may be out of the NFL after this year. The Jets could go 2-14 and draft the top QB prospect next year. Who knows?

So anybody voting for Alex has minimal risk.

One thing unclear about the poll is if Alex's wins only count if he is on the Chiefs. What if he is released in 2 years. Do the wins on his new team count for the 5 year window, or just for the Chiefs? It seems "success" for the Chiefs wouldn't count any wins for the Chiefs. So I can tell if this bet is Geno vs Alex straight up, or Geno vs Alex as a Chief only.

Because the only concern is how the QB can win games for you.

This "epic" battle is really over which fans want to win and be respectable NOW with a vet QB vs those who are only focused on finding and developing this imagined franchise QB ( but sucking for more years till he becomes that ).

The simple reality is this. KC can win games now with this vet QB PLUS still groom a young QB to be the franchise QB... if even we are to unjustly assume that the vet QB is maxed out as only a serviceable QB.

If he were going through growing pains, I'd agree. From what I've seen, he hasn't really improved much on the things he didn't do well in college (you woulnd't know those things, you don't watch college football by your own admission) and is doing the things he did do well in college well in the NFL.

It's cool how I get neg-repped and told I have the worst football IQ on the entire board in that neg-rep for saying I don't think Geno will turn out to be an elite QB. Needless to say, my football IQ isn't up there with some people here, but to be worst on the board would be pretty ****in bad considering some of the things I've read so I hope that isn't true lol.

The funny part of all this is nobody ****in knows who is gonna do what. Even the assholes that are paid millions to know about this stuff get it wrong often. It's fun to be bold and make predictions, I get that. So my bold prediction is that Geno won't be starting in the NFL a couple years from now, and I sure as **** don't predict he'll be a Hall of Fame QB. And that prediction goes for Alex too...

Well, I can't really disagree with your post.

But the title of the OP, not to mention the edit with their week 1 stats, pretty clearly communicates, to me, anyway, "Let's compare these two quarterbacks." That may be a foolish undertaking, or it may be interesting.

But the fact remains, it appears to be what this thread is about. So, to say don't compare them, in this thread, just struck me as somewhat funny.
