What I'm saying is, I doubt they would sign him to that extension if they didn't feel he could still play a lot on Sunday's and be effective.

Yeah, because, you know, DEE FORD IS GONNA LIGHT SHIT UP!

Whether you like it or not, Tamba is still our most dependable OLB. I could give a shit if they give him a Segway to get around the practice field. The man never takes a play off. It will be a sad day when his career is over. But until then, enjoy what he brings because players like him are few and far between....

Chiefs gain $4 million in cap room with Rod Streater contract adjustment

The Chiefs had a little over $3 million in cap space on Wednesday, according to the NFL Players Association, which was a sharp contrast from previous days, where the number was around negative-$900,000.

So what happened? It appears there’s been an adjustment to wide receiver Rod Streater’s contract. Streater’s cap number dropped from $4.8 million to $810,000 due to a restructure of contract’s incentives that was filed in early August.

The renegotiation created cap room because Streater’s incentives — which were for things like receiving yards, touchdowns and receptions and total $4 million — were restructured to go from being likely-to-be-earned (and thus, counting against the cap) to not-likely-to-be-earned (and thus, not counting against the cap).

It is unclear why the change occurred — the Chiefs don’t comment publicly on business matters — but the Chiefs now find themselves with an adequate amount of cap room to play with as the season draws near.

I don't think they pay him what they paid him if this were a legitimate concern. Sounds to me like Reid basically said what I've been thinking all along and Teicher twisted it. Tamba doesn't need practice to be effective on Sunday's, and is better off being rested.

Exactly.

Sometimes you get lucky and someone like Jerry Hughes falls into your lap. The Bills got themselves a minor miracle when the Colts cut a young veteran loose that fit their system perfectly and came cheap.

But that doesn't happen very often. More often than not you either sign a JAG that doesn't help you or you overpay for an import that doesn't help you nearly as much as his pricetag suggests he should because there's a learning curve (and he might be an asshole).

Hali just made too much sense. You know who he is and he knows how to play here.

That said, when Dwight Freeney was out there to be had cheap, I don't know why we didn't kick the tires there. He'd have been a fantastic rotational option for us, IMO. I just wonder if the Chiefs are trying a bit too hard to hold onto some of these more limited players like Zombo and Moses (or maybe they've invested a little too heavily in young LB depth with Alexander, Nicolas, March and Wilson all in a 2 year span).

You know what the **** I mean by that. This place is like 10% football discussion at best. You're here for friends and jokes and that's fine, but I'm here to talk football, and you're a clueless moron with nothing to offer in football discussion. So GET OFF MY NUTS.

Good find, Dane. Yeah, that sounds very odd, doesn't it? Wonder who decides what is likely/unlikely to be earned. Hmmmm...

They never should've been called LTBE anyway.

They're mostly 'per game' incentives as well as catch/yards incentives, IIRC. How they're classified is based on how the player played the year before.

Well Streater hardly played the year before and the NFL isn't supposed to consider why in that calculus. He only played 1 game so by the general rule, only 1 game worth of game incentives should've been considered LBTE. And as he had 1 catch for 8 yards, none of the catch/yard incentives should've been considered LBTE.

To me this is just righting a wrong, not actually changing much. I mentioned it the first time I noticed his cap figure; it never made sense for those to be called likely to be earned based on any rule I could find.

It won't have any bearing on his roster status. If he were cut, all those LBTE incentives would fall off anyway. So this doesn't do anything to grease the skids on cutting him.
