This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

I don't know how to explain this season. It's been the most maddening, gut-wrenching, "god-****"-inducing Mongolian cluster**** of monkeyshit in baseball history, but somehow, some way, this team fell ass over teakettle into the playoffs.

I probably feel like Seal did the first time he dropped a nut on Heidi Klum.

I avoided commenting on games because the Cards were winning a hell of a lot more lately when I wasn't and you don't **** with a winning streak.

That said - damn that was exciting. Probably the best night of baseball...well maybe ever.

I'll be heading to STL on Tuesday to catch my 3rd playoff game and while I'm not as optimistic as I was about the 2006 squad, I tend to see us as playing with house money at this point.

So honestly - why the **** not? Let's win the damn thing.

As a Halladay fan, I wanted him to face the DBacks because I felt he would easily dominate them. The Cards have some hitters that should present a challenge (including the immortal Pujols), though, especially the way they're hitting. Should be a very interesting series if TLR doesn't find some way to **** it up.

Yeah, I woke the dog, kids, etc when freeman bounced into the dp. Great night of baseball, but I was glad the Cards had the 8-0 snoozer. My old heart can only take so much.

Thanks. I remember the last time we met in the post season.....

But besides that, it would mean an NLCS between two small market midwestern teams that would make all the scumbags at Fox shit themselves. That alone would make it wonderful.

I'm still puzzled as hell by what just happened.

I was pretty much dead ass wrong about this team - but why? If you take my individual positions, I was only extremely wrong once.

The infield defense truly is miserable and the OF defense isn't a hell of a lot better.
The bullpen is absolutely spotty and prone to blowups. Ryan Franklin imploded.
The offense is incredibly streaky and can go silent at any given time.
The starting pitching was decent, but not spectacular to the point that it should overcome a bad defense.
The 'chemistry' nonsense was just that - nonsense. This team's 'chemistry' was pretty damn toxic until they started winning in Sept. For the record - that's always been the case; winning creates chemistry, not vice versa.
Ryan Theriot still sucks.
LaRussa still costs this team a bunch of games through hairbrained managing.

All those things that should have made this an incredibly mediocre ballclub happened. I was absolutely wrong about Berkman, though. He clearly had more gas in the tank than I thought and I'm really amazed that he made it through a season in RF healthy.

I guess it's just a matter of the team being better than the sum of its parts. This team is nothing like the '06 team; that squad was loaded and just got healthy at the right time. This team is really unlike any team I've seen in baseball...ever.

I don't get it, I really don't. I have no earthly idea how they made the playoffs, let alone won 90 games. They defy absolutely every bit of conventional baseball logic ever assembled.

But I'll tip my cap to the folks that didn't give up on them. Well, except for Marcellus - he's still just a mindless homer that happened to fall backwards into a win. But congrats to the rest of the die-hards because you've earned your gloating here.

I watched maybe three games after making the trip to Chicago in August - and they were playing well, so I quit watching until this past series with Houston.

A group of us were at Cicero's on The Loop last night watching and had a ****ing blast.
