I don't think we've necessarily been bad against threes, some teams jack 3's all night long. That's their offense. That's why every year in the tournament some upsets occur due to a 3 pt team getting hot, within a game or two they cool off and lose.
We don't lose many games each year, sometimes you play a team that jacks threes and makes more than normal, hard to beat a team shooting 50% from 3 range and shooting 20+ a game, therefore those losses stand out more than others.
I have been very happy with Coach Self.
Just my thought.

our offense struggles to shoot from the outside which allows defensive to clog the paint. To beat KU you clog the paint and shoot the 3 ... if you can do that then you have a decent chance of winning even if KU is more talented.

Inferior teams with inferior talent that play KU usually beat us (when they do) by jacking 3s, holding the ball for the entire shot clock and then taking poor shots but we get out-hustled on the boards. It rarely happens but when we do lose it's because we didn't play our game.

WATCH THE GAMES ... we lose because of our offense. Our offense struggles because of our shooting. Our shooting % numbers are padding because of all the layups and point blank shots.

So what you are saying is that teams that shoot closer shots instead of jacking up 3's all game shoot a better % & win more games. I can't imagine why Self hasn't taken to the "jack a shot" method sooner.

A loss like this was coming. I think college basketball has it wrong. Teams like Kansas and Duke and Kentucky shouldn't be headlined by freshmen. They should be led by seniors. You KU fans shouldn't have to put up with this.

KU got pushed around for most of the game, but I liked the way they fought back in the 2nd half (particularly Embiid and Mason). Played their best defense all season as well. Tough luck that Nova made the contested 3 at the end, but they're a good team. No Battle 4 Atlantis title for us, but I hope competing like this makes them better long-term.

Self is a great guy and a very good coach but our weaknesses/strengths are pretty much exactly the same each year

Don't bring the "eyeball test", KU fans don't do that. Statistically there is no evidence the Self teams have been bad 3-pt defenders. None. He rarely loses so it sticks out when teams make them. Fallacious logic unless you note the data in games we win.


Self has had a top-10 defensive FG team every year here. Every one. He gets guys who defend and take away easy buckets. Doesn't worry about our 3pt shooting and never has. And at this level it works, quite well.
