If so, you'd see that he DID make players like Vernon Davis "better". Michael Crabtree was far behind in his development due to missing the first half of the 2009 season. Their other wide receivers were pure dogshit, which is why in 2012, they signed Mario Manningham and Randy Moss, plus drafted a WR in the first round of the draft.

It was an issue, they 49ers KNEW it was an issue, so to pretend like it was Smith's false is just plain nonsense.

The 49ers chose to stick with Smith as their starter even after the hiring of Harbaugh and the selection of Kaepernick in 2011. Why? Because he gave them their best chance to win, and he DID win in 2011 and 2012.

But what head coach doesn't want their own guy to play? Kaepernick is a freak. He's a dual threat player that can throw a 50 yard pass in air or run for a 50 yard TD. EVERYONE that followed the 49ers felt it was only a matter of time before Kaepernick was starting.

That wasn't an indictment of Smith, it was an endorsement of Kaepernick.

This is nonsense. Smith showed plenty of flashes over the years but he had a difference OC every year before Harbaugh arrived on the scene. And it wasn't like those offensive coordinators ran the same scheme. He went from WCO, to Coryell to who knows what to Jimmy ****ing Raye and so on.

Alex Smith will be a competent QB in KC. Will he win a playoff game? Who knows? Will he win a Super Bowl? Who knows? But he's definitely capable of winning a playoff game and he's definitely a capable starter, which is more than I can say for Cassel or Quinn or Palko or Thigpen or Croyle.
He didn't make Vernon Davis better. Vernon Davis is who he is with or without Alex Smith. Sorry.

Harbaugh certainly wanted to play Kaepernick because he was a freak. But the thing you're still ignoring is that Alex Smith is not a freak. Kaepernick can do many many things that Alex Smith could not do. It had nothing to do with coach or GM allegiance, and everything to do with Kaepernick having a vastly superior skill set.

Cassel showed some flashes too....

Really? Then why did Mike Singletary "moon" him? Why was Singletary constantly on his ass?

Dude.

Kaepernick has a vastly superior skillset to 28 starting QB's and that's probably a stretch. Maybe it's just one: Cam Newton. And hell, he may be superior to him as well.

Too bad the Chiefs and those other 28 teams passed on him.

Why would a GM want to win a Superbowl with a QB he inherited? Is that seriously a question? Did you really just type that out?
No, if the kid makes a bad play i have no problem with that.. but everyone including yourself exclude his 20-5 record these past 2 seasons as a fluke? If you can say that, why cant i say his previous years before that were flukes? I mean Shaun hill/Jt Osullivan/Alex smith all started games for the 49ers in 1 year alone.. 1 year 3 different QB's. nicee. I blame alex for that though not the coaching staff nope. nope. alexs fault.

Heres the point and i'll leave it at this.. The kids 20-5 last 2 seasons, hes on a role... Would you rather have a QB that started 20-5 in 05' 06' and then sucked 07-12' like Mark sanchez is currently doing? Or the other way around?

Alex hasnt even take a snap for us. Not even a practice snap, not even signed yet for that matter and people want his head... I think people qualified to make these decisions are alot smarter about evaluating talent than you or i are...

Wow.
Singletary was a damn crazy idiot. To pretty much everyone. He was fired for being a crazy idiot.

It's also telling that none of the "Experts" identified Kaepernick as worthy of a first round pick. I guess they can be wrong about that sometimes huh?

OK... let me explain this again. Smith went through 9 coordinators. Only 1 has had significant success with Alex Smith. 8:1 failure rate. The definition of fluke is an unlikely occurrence. If the same thing happens 8 times in a row, but the outcome changes the 9th time, which occurrence would be considered the fluke?

Well, that's not exactly true. I'm sure there were several teams that liked Kaepernick but already had a starter in place. According to a report I read earlier in the week (I can't recall if it was here or elsewhere), the Chiefs scouts LOVED Kaepernick but ***** overruled him in favor of Baldwin.

But none of that matters. What matters is the Chiefs enter the 2013 with a solid veteran QB. I highly doubt that they're finished acquiring QB's for five years.

GOOD if this happens we can let him walk after 13' and draft a qb in round 1 number 1 overall (since it sounds like we are really gonna stink). Next years QB class is more superior and more trustworthy than this years draft anyways.

The only real 'help' Alex Smith provided in Kaep's development was a year buffer so Kaep wouldn't be thrown in the fire. Matt Cassel or any other scrub could have done the same with how good the '11 Niners Defense, ST, and run game were.

What did Alex teach Kaep? How to not recognize a defense other than Cover-2? How to take a sack because your first read wasn't open even if the protection is good? How to complete a 3 yard pass on 3rd and long? How to consistently miss seeing wide open players down field? And How to airmail the players deep that he does see?

And on and on.

The beautiful part about this is in a year you might finally see what the rest of the competent NFL fans see.
Hey Smith does checkdowns real good....he rolls right and throws out of bounds at least as good if not better than anyone in the NFL and has for years...wow I am so excited....

If so, they are truly stupid. For example, Houston and New Orleans should damn well be thinking about acquiring a potential franchise QB. If prospects dip in the first, these teams should absolutely be considering a QB in round one.

I hope he has Matt Cassel success... So we can cut our losses sooner rather than later and get that #1 overall again..

JFC we need a QB and desperately...

So I vote for him to fail and fails in true Chiefs fashion....

It's not exactly easy to say "Just let him walk" after 1 season when we've invested a #34 overall pick and another conditional 2-3rd round pick...

That would make this move much worse...
