Oh, I believe it can happen. Having to give up a 1st plus and give him a contract making him the highest paid safety in the league gets it done now. Is that worth it? Not to me.

Haven't I made that clear already? He's going to be 30 next year, he doesn't actually guarantee us shit in the form of winning games, that "compensation" could help us a hell of a lot in the future, and I actually plan to be a Chiefs fan for longer than this year. I know you're desperate for them to win it all this year and be done with them, but that's not me.

I'd give up a 2nd and a 5th for him. Chances are pretty high that those players won't be starters. Hell I'd give up a 1st and 5th for him. Maybe both of our 2nds for him.

I mean, if Earl Thomas was anywhere near as valuable as Khalil Mack there would be teams jumping over each other to throw picks at the Seahawks just for the right to sign him. But there isn't.

Trading for Earl Thomas doesn't hurt this team's future at all.

1) He's a FS. He could play another 4 years easy. Every bit as long as a draft pick.

2) There's a ton of money going to come off the books next year and after. His salary will be EASY to absorb, even if he's the highest-paid safety in the league.

3) So far, this regime's defensive drafts have demonstrated at least partially that they don't know how to fix this defense through the draft. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

There's no reason not to do this deal, not only for this year but for the next 2 or 3.

You're right, I don't care about mortgaging the future.

But they wouldn't be mortgaging the future anyway. That's a myth that teams foist on fans to justify standing pat and doing nothing.
