I sometimes overlook him because of his age, but Brewer Hicklen went 3-3 with 3 HR in last night’s game for Wilmington (at Wilmington’s home park, Fraley).
He has 5 HR in his past 3 games, all at Fraley. That’s a feat. On the season, he’s .271/.376/.446 with 38 SB and 14 HR. 138 K, though. He’s not young for the level - 23 is pretty average for High-A - but that’s still an impressive overall line. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Merrifield was never this good in the low minors, but yeah, Hicklen could be that sort of under-the-radar pop-up who becomes a good pro. He’s really fast and is a great athlete (went to UAB to play football - WR - and basketball) so it’s a good profile if he can make enough contact. Will be fun to watch next year.

Maybe Hicklen can have a talk with his teammates (Pratto, Melendez, and the again injured Matias) on how to not completely suck ass.

That’s it. They value the playoff experience and extended seasons more than a month at the next level. His road splits are even more exciting: .293/.380/.479 Quote:
Or tell them how much easier it was the second-go round, and how he learned and adjusted to have success. He was there for a small stint last year and slashed .211/.263/.573 in 22 games (with a 37% K rate)

I'm willing to bet at least 1 of the two(Melendez, Matias) turns it around next year. I'm not sure why Pratto gets lumped in with those guys. Yeah he was a first round pick, but he hasn't really had a great season (OPS over .800) and if the only thing he can do is play 1B, then I'm not too hopeful that he will have a productive big league career if he can't have over a .800 OPS in the minors.
Another thing to consider about Matias and Melendez is that they are only 20 years old and Hicklen is 23 and it's the 2nd season he's been there. Now if Melendez and Matias do the same thing next year, then I'd say it's pretty safe to say they are non prospects. |
