I'm midway through the third season after taking a few year hiatus following the end of the prequel season.
They've transitioned from the arena to the battlefield quite well. The new guy that plays Spartacus has very pink lips. The re-cast of Naevia or however you spell her name is a huge boner kill. The chick that originally played her would get married with a quickness. Gannicus back in the mix is pretty cool. ....... That is all... |

Could barely stand the new guy as Spartacus, he looked too much like a typical pretty boy and also lacked the depth of acting that Andy Whitfield did... Whitfield looked like some ancient guy and had the gravitas to pull off the role.
New dude, not so much... but I didnt let it stop me from watching because I'd become so invested after the first season, that series was a LOT of fun, they always did justice to the Romans and all of their ugly machinations. |

And, yeah. The recast for Naevia is awful. Just bad.

Gannicus is a ****ing beast.
Achilles is easily the nastiest fictional, ancient fighter in the cinematic (and TV) universe but Gannicus could probably give guys like Leonidas and Aragorn a run for their money. |

I wouldnt be so sure that Achilles is fictional, archaeologists found what they believe to be a burned down Troy...
http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/849 Its not 100% sure, but I'd hate to live in a world where mighty Achilles didnt exist... the 300 existed, no real reason to believe Achilles didnt before them. |

I was just comparing the guys we've seen on TV like Leonidas, Achilles, Hector, Themistocles, Maximus, Aragorn, Spartacus, etc. |

Loved this show and re watched it on Netflix
I had forgot how much I enjoyed this show. Agree with everyone that towards the end Liam did a helluva job as Spartacus. Will always wonder about the show if Andy had managed to beat cancer. |

"The baby looks slightly deformed? off the cliff it goes!"... these people were born and raised in a world where ANY sign of weakness was instant death... not trying to disagree just to look smart or be an ass, but when you really think about the ancient world... those people were hard as HELL, even our old 17-1800's ancestors would be like "oh my lands, how did those people ever live long enough to create a new generation, it was pure death 24/7". In my world, Achilles was every bit the dynamic athlete and swordsmith he was in "Troy"... he just wasnt some handsome american blonde like Pitt. |

People from ancient times were certainly hardened, but we have advantages in our era in modern nutrition and weighlifting.
How big do you think guys like Leonidas and Achilles would have been in BC times? |

I dont think those old Greek statues are lies, they had the 6 packs, they were lean due to their low fat diets, tons of carbs through beans and wheat etc, but depending on how close to the coast they were they also had excellent seafood protein. The biggest problem I have with how tv portrays the ancient world is showing some huge musclebound guy... it just didnt look like that, those buff Conan (God bless that movie I dont even care, where is the supposed new one?) looks are the result of modern training, as most of us know. |

Yeah. They were half as tall because they ate like balls. And they wouldn't be epic ripped because of weight regimens. But they would have kicked the **** out of Gerrard Butler.
