HALEY STICKS TO SCHEDULE

August 7th - 11:33 AM

Mother Nature tried to spoil Chiefs practice this morning, but head coach Todd Haley decided to use the less-than-optimal rain as a building block for his squad.

“I think that it builds charecter and mental toughness,” Haley said of practicing in the rain. “I thought it was very competitive.”

Despite the rain, Haley and his staff decided that the show must go on. Haley only cut one period from the normal practice regimine - a three-minute water break.

What a bad ass!

Speculation. It provides some of the best conversation between fans and it most definitely is one of the most fun things about training camp. A rookie free agent might make a few big plays and see some action with the first-team. That player immediately then becomes the talk of camp. A longtime starter heads down with the second-team for a few reps and it’s front page news. Every position shift involving first-team reps gets plenty of attention during training camp.

Yesterday, Coach Haley reminded us to be careful with assumptions, as what meets the eye may not be the reality of the situation.

“I would warn against looking at how we’re practicing and say who’s (first-team),” Haley noted. “That’s not the way we’re talking in our staff room. We’re constantly putting this guy up today and tomorrow it could be someone else. We’re moving them all through to show them we’re serious about what we’re talking about, that it is a competition. We don’t want anybody feeling real comfortable right now.”

But coach, surely a lot of things we see at practice will weigh into choosing the three quarterbacks for this roster.

“You say three quarterbacks, I don’t know if we’ll have three. We might have two, who knows how it’s all going to play out.”
