The Bengals did it for 3 reasons: they're desperate, delusional (see * below), and on top of that their LT Jonah Williams had a major injury (if he didn't, they'd just stick with him).

Brown: allowed 47 pressures, 4 sacks
Williams: allowed 43 pressures, 12 sacks* (here's where their delusion comes in, thinking OB is, what, good at recovering or something? When as we all know, that's just Pat pulling a rabbit out of his ass every drive)

They front-loaded the deal because they know OB isn't the long-term solution and they know they're gonna be looking for his replacement in 2 years.

OB is the exact opposite, where his pressures get bailed out by the magic of Mahomes.

Honestly this signing is good for the Bengals and Chiefs. It just sucks for Brown Jr. This might be the last chance he has at LT or for LT money, so he needs to make the most of it.

Surely the reports last year were wrong and the Chiefs never offered close to that, right? And if OBJ could only get $16M per year, I feel like Veach has to have overpaid for Taylor at $20M per year. He's always played right tackle. I don't see what he's done to be paid elite LT money. Elite RT money, sure. But that's more what OBJ got that what he got.
It's tough to say anything for certain from where we're sitting, but here is a list of things we either know or have been reported:

1. Brown Jr had one of the worst combine performances. There were questions about whether he'd be athletic enough to handle speed rushers a T is likely to face on the left side.

2. The Ravens had him at RT due to this

3. He comes to KC and we give him the opportunity to play LT

4. He struggled frequently

5. It was reported that we offered him the 6 year $139m deal that was really something like 5 years $95m without the fluff (or whatever; I can't remember the exact figures).

6. He instead played on the tag for $16m in 2022

7. It was reported that we would not tag Brown Jr in 2023

8. It's reported that Brown Jr does not have the market he anticipated because league execs view him as a RT, not a LT

9. He signs for $16m per year to play LT for the Bengals

9. He Tweets that it was very important to him to continue playing LT

I may have missed some stuff but based on everything I've seen, I think it was probably accurate that we offered him that larger deal. He turned it down assuming he'd be able to exceed those numbers on the open market then quickly realized that he would not be able to do so. He took the deal early on in Free Agency before teams could overspend for other FAs and/or draft Ts and gain more leverage in contract talks.

The Tweet is really the icing on the cake for me. He would not have Tweeted that for no reason. Someone (possibly multiple someones) was telling him they wanted to stick him at RT.

That's my read on it anyway.

Dude let his ego run him and he ended up getting burned by it. He’s a dumbass but he’s no longer a chief so I don’t care.

I dont get being negative toward Brown. Its just business. Cinn took advantage of his situation. Good for Cinn. Brown gets to make a lot of money playing on a good team. Its a win-win for both sides. Three years from now Brown can get another deal. I think he will like 29.

We won a superbowl so thank you Brown. I wish him the best.

Chiefs wanted to move on and its great they did not give him that contract last year. Not great he went to Cinn but it could have been another good team. Chiefs sticking to their plan. Its working.

Yup.

Crazy sucks. It gets beaten out of most folks over time, though. It's really just the noobs, the guys with short client rosters or, the worst of the worst, guys doing favors for their college buddies. Holy Christ those are awful.

The negativity comes from his apparent angst towards the Chiefs.

This franchise made that man a LOT of money by committing to him at LT and then winning around him. And we get "I want to play those guys in the post-season" as a response?

**** him.

Apparent is the key. We really dont know. Playing the Chiefs? Thats not negative. He did not say beating the Chiefs. I just dont let myself get negative on things I really dont know the complete story. KC moved on and may have wanted him to move to RT. We dont know. Note: My bad hit the thumb down on accident.
