I guess they'll eventually prove it if that's the case, since they haven't so far this season in terms of actual results.


And as I've said before, I do think OU is legit and think they're probably better than Kansas, but unless/until OU makes it to the FF and Kansas loses in the first weekend, there isn't much point in carrying on the conversation game by game.

Feels good to be right.

Mason was certainly better last year than Ellis and the first two months of this season. The fact that a guy who doesn't defend at all became our best player in January, though, is kind of the issue with this team.

The statistical rating systems of BPI (2nd to 17th), KenPom (5th to 10th), Sagarin (3rd to 9th), and Massey (2nd to 10th) would seem to beg to differ on that point.

I'm not the one doing it. I resigned myself months ago to the fact OU was the better team, even before KU's awful January. If KU can somehow win the Big 12 regardless, then great. It's just unlikely.

Kenpom has Kansas at -0.0174, 10 spots worse on offense and 11 spots better on defense.... Sagarin is at -.63, with actual results against top 25 and top 100 being very close. Neither suggest OU is far and away the better team. And of course none of them are all that decisive anyway (except probably a few years ago when even the computers had to know Kentucky would win it all).

That's a fairly significant margin, one I certainly wouldn't expect KU to make up in a month with the way they've played all season.

Doesn't BPI suck? Don't think I've ever heard a good thing about it (regardless of the current point, obviously).

It's the first time I've seen "right now" in your argument, beyond repeatedly saying Kansas has been terrible in the past month... and like I've said multiple times, I'm not really even arguing the point beyond the "way better," since that doesn't really exist inside of the top 10 of CBB.

If we weren't talking about what the two teams are "right now," I'm not sure what we've be talking about. The whole "way better" thing is pretty semantical, but I find it hard to argue based on the stats that the two teams are all that close at the moment.

Huh... guess I'll take your word for it. I personally like looking at kenpom and Sagarin, but they're all just estimates that are subject to tweaking season by season to hopefully make them a little more accurate.

As I said before, give KU some toughness or a Withey/(healthy) Embiid type big or somehow equalize Heald and 'way better' becomes even pretty quickly. Yeah, if KU had a Withey with this group, they'd be the top team in the country. The team would still be softer than we've become accustomed to in the Self era, but the effect of that would be much less with an elite rim protector (and think how good a fit Perry would be with him). As it stands, though, the team is pretty flawed. Again we head into March stuck with a no-offense big like Lucas/Traylor getting significant minutes. And Frank Mason (who was either the best or 2nd best player over the last two years depending on whether you're willing to ignore Perry Ellis' defense) has fallen off a cliff over the last month for whatever reason. It's hard to be too positive going forward considering that.
