A 19 year old 'party girl' high school drop out who moved away from her family and in with her boyfriend at 17...

Sorry, I don't know many girls that age who are like this and aren't looking for a meal ticket. I would bet that few of his friends knew about her because they would try to convince him how crazy and stupid he was being. The ones who did know are probably akin to Michael Jackson's enabling friends...they were leeching off of him themselves. Perhaps getting in on the action with her friends.

It's fair to say, Ms. memyselfI, that you don't know much about McNair or his friends.

You are merely piling ridiculous speculation upon absurd guesswork.

Most of it is speculation. But what we do know is that he was cheating on his wife, leading a young woman on by buying her all kinds of expensive shit (while still married). And based on the fact that he was in the car with her when she got her DUI, was with her well into the night on the night that they were shot, it sounds like he wasn't spending a whole lot of quality time with his kids either--yes, that part was speculation, but it's not so ridiculous.

From facts, you create patterns of behavior.

Exactly. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or psychic to speculate that 'friends' of Steve's who knew about this were not 'friends' who had his best interest at heart. No, they were getting something out of the knowledge themselves. Why else would they allow their 'friend' to engage in such dangerous and self destructive behavior. Why would they help him do so?

Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about, Mr. chiefzilla1501.

Let me tell you what McNair was like. He was a big, friendly, overgrown, good-hearted kid. A really nice guy. That's what he was like. The transition out of football wasn't easy for him. He tried to make his marriage work, but it didn't. Nevertheless, he took care of his wife and children financially. He was generous with them. He kept his local foundation going throughout his move to Baltimore and after. He spent a lot of time helping kids in the community. He was excited about his new restaurant. It gave him the direction he needed.

With the marriage on the rocks, he got mixed up with a crazy chick. Far from "enabling" as Ms. memyselfI and you suggest, many of his friends thought she was taking advantage of him. The crazy chick went nuts when he tried to move on. Those are the facts.

I would like to add that while he never made a big deal about it, FAX knew Steve McNair personally (how well I do not know). Although I've done my share of speculating on this thread, I'm going to defer to his first hand knowledge of that social circle. Obviously there were two sides to McNair. He was a complicated person with real warts that happened to be exposed in a tragic manner. What he did was wrong. But we shouldn't allow that to become the dominant memory of a great football player and someone who was generous with his time and money in his charity work.

Edit: FAX's post 358 appeared after I started writing this post, FWIW.

I glad you posted this as I had formed a bad opinion of him over this. It is good to hear the other side of the story. I am disappointed that he would mess with such a young girl and have always felt you should finish up the divorce before dating around. He had not even filed. That said it sounds like there was much good in him. I feel very bad for his family having to deal with the cloud of shame created by this.
