As pointed out in the Chiefs-Redskins portion our Morning Aftermath, Kansas City receiver Dwayne Bowe caught six passes for 109 yards. It was his best output of the season.

Bowe's performance came at a time when rumors are rampant that he (and pretty much any other Chiefs player not named "Matt Cassel") is available as the trade deadline looms.

So was he motivated by the rumors? As it turns out, no.

Bowe was motivated by a specific threat, from coach Todd Haley.

Per a league source, Haley tore into Bowe early in Sunday's win over the Redskins, urging Bowe to pick up his game and threatening to trade Bowe if he didn't.

Though some might have seen it as a chance to get over the wall and head to a contending team, the exchange seemed to light a fire under Bowe.

So we suppose it would be fitting if the performance prompts a team like the Dolphins or Ravens to make the Chiefs an offer for Bowe that G.M. Scott Pioli accepts.

I'm pretty sure that Haley's issues with Bowe went well beyond the "drops". I imagine they had something to do with his practice and study habits, his routes, his cuts, his reads, his blocking, and other aspects of his play.

Since casual fans have no knowledge as to the route Bowe is supposed to run on any given play based on the defense shown by the enemy, no one removed from the team would know if he's improved in that area, or not. The same problem applies to other parts of Bowe's game.

And again, Haley must not have come across the way Florio implies, or if he did, Bowe must have taken it the right way, because Bowe was the first to congratulate Haley after the game and stood right by his side as time elapsed with an enormous smile on his face. If there was bad blood between them, or if Haley was coming anywhere close to alienating Bowe, he would have been on his way to the locker room instead of sticking with his coach.

On the other hand, Uncle Dick pissed LJ off in a big way. No one seriously disputes that. Heck, LJ went so far as to complain about "white" coaches after that incident. Perspective is in order here, my friend. Perspective.

While many of those things you mentioned can't be measured, he did miss a key block last game that would have sprung Cassel for a TD at the end of the game. This had to be well after the "trade threat."

Look, I hope that the method Haley is using is great, but as of now, there is no evidence to support that it is working at all. In fact, some of our key players have regressed this year. Those guys seem to be the ones who he has been hardest on since training camp. All I'm saying, is if being a hardass all the time isn't working, it would be nice to see him adjust his coaching style a bit.

And yeah, it was nice to see Bowe congratulate Haley and he definitely seems to appreciate the guy. My point is that that appreciation doesn't seem to be making a difference on the football field, which is what matters.

All the yelling and screaming and threatening in the world means nothing if it doesn't amount to improvement.

And, as OTWP pointed out earlier, if Haley is taking constant shots at the only talented players on the team all the time, why would other talented players want to come here in the future?

Some guys will always just drop passes, TO has always dropped passes.

This idea that some people have that Bowe is some bum or that he's Johnny Morton because he doesn't catch everything in his vicinity is a joke.

Dude, I don't usually get crossed with you, but are you going to contribute anything other than complaining about the thread, which does bring up some valid concerns (even if they could be in the future, and aren't concerns right now).
