DEN has played some good offenses (not great, let's be clear) and managed to stay in most of those games. The DEN defense has been a large part of that. They would have to be, considering just how bad their offense has been this year.

Now, if we were in week 4, the rankings don't mean nearly as much; just not enough data.. But now we're 11 games in and the stats are more meaningful. So if the stats show that the DEN is 5th, that's probably fairly close. Strength of schedule being a part of that equation, of course.

Possibly. The best defenses today aren't as good as the top defenses from 20 or 30 years ago.

And as I stated above, I don't believe that DEN is the 5th best defense. Somewhere in the top 10 maybe. And most of that is due to institutionalization and the talent they have on the roster.
