The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I follow this thread and make a few posts. Some are just being silly however I've been inspired and I'm going to actually count my calories for a week and see if I can maximize some weight loss. Today I'm at 350 so far.

I had a bowl of oatmeal at 160 claories and some sunny D at 90 calories for breakfast and then a small sandwich with one piece of sara lee whole wheat bread and 3 thin slices of peppered turkey breast combined it's 95 calories but I'll call it and even hundred. I don't know what's for diner yet but I'm going to try and keep it light.

I'm 6' 215 so how many calories a day should I consume while trying to lose weight?

I want to weigh 199.

Typically a slice of bread has nearly that many calories itself. Plus meat? I think you might want to recalculate your sandwich. Was it dry?

Like GC said, apples should accomplish the same thing, but there's something about that vending machine junk or the soda that worms its way into my psyche as a reward or compensation for a tough day.
]I had an apple, a pear and a salad before I ran out. It didn't do anything for me. Like I said, it's a psychological. Fruit isn't a comfort food for me, at least not yet. It's something I eat because I have to, rather than want to, so I don't get a whole lot of joy out of it.

I think I forgot to mention that I got a soda as well, some new Mountain Dew with lime. I only drank 3 or 4 swallows of it, though. Not that it was bad, I just didn't want it once I had it. I thought I'd need the caffeine, but as it turns out I didn't.

Anyone know of a good website that can accurately (or close to it) tell me how many calories I'm burning when I'm exercising?

I'm not very familiar with this thinking. Everything I read says to eat often to jumpstart metabolism & waiting too long between meals halts it, sending your body into starvation mode. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just intrigued. Is there a link that describes what you're doing & how it works?

Sara Lee bread (if I'm talking about the same one) has like 45 calories per slice.

livestrong.com. Register & use My Plate. It's pretty useful. I don't count calories - I hate the idea of it, but that's a really cool site.

It'll tell you roughly how many calories you consume & how many you burn doing various activities based on your age/sex.body weight.

i can give you a guideline (which may help you)based off of running 4-miles at 8:45 per... (that's pretty fast.) When I do this, i burn 600 calories ..... almost exactly.

Huh?

You run 8.45 miles in 4 minutes?

Or are you running at 8.45 (speed) for 4 minutes?

I ran painfully slow today. I'd be surprised if I was under 12 minute miles.

I hate starting over.

Maybe it was light wheat but the package said 45 cals per slice. I looked up the turkey on the calorie count web page and it varies a little by brand but three thin slices are about 45 cals and then i rounded up 5 cals too.
