It's the Belichick strategy. I'm surprised the entire league doesn't do this on a consistent basis against the Chiefs (or any good passing offense). The refs do not call the mugging stuff anywhere near as often as it's happening. Even if they penalize it 30% of the time, it means the mugging defense is getting away with stuff on 70% of the snaps and that's HUGE in terms of trying to slow down a really good passing offense.

The only offense that seems to get these defensive penalties called on a consistent basis (60% or more of the time) is an offense featuring Tom Brady. Pretty convenient when Brady's defense is allowed to mug the opponent receivers, but nobody is allowed to do the same thing to Brady's receivers.

Given what we saw from Matthieu and Sorenson down the stretch last year, we should definitely give him credit for doing his job. That's a far cry better than those 2 did last year.
