It's probably because they show up in the preseason rankings every single year, jump 10 spots if they win a game, but never live up to the hype and get media coverage like they win a BCS bowl every season. Of course, "it's not Notre Dame's fault, but you can't really blame people for being skeptical.

Like I said though, I think they're legit this year.... finally.
