Rumors: cleveland looks to trade more players: Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz and Speculation Surrounding Browns WR
BY JOSEPH ZUCKER
(FEATURED COLUMNIST)
ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2013

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Browns' fire sale may yet continue as the team has reportedly made wide receiver Josh Gordon available.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are willing to part with Gordon along with fellow wide receiver Greg Little:

ESPN's Adam Caplan adds that Gordon has actually been on the trade block for "several weeks":

Gordon is returning to the field in Week 3 after serving a two-game suspension at the start of the regular season, following a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He came into the season with some lofty expectations after his rookie year, in which he caught 50 passes for 805 yards and five touchdowns.

This news is exactly what Browns fans won't want to hear. It comes the same week as Cleveland essentially gave up on the 2013 season just two weeks into the season, first naming Brian Hoyer the starting quarterback over the banged-up Brandon Weeden and backup Jason Campbell, and then trading Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts.

For a fanbase as tortured as the Browns' it will hurt to see yet another talented offensive player be pushed out the door.

Only 22 years old, Gordon will continue to improve, and he's the kind of player a team can build a receiving corps around. The fact that Cleveland is thinking about offoading him is arguably more surprising than the Richardson trade.

However, if Cleveland is really in rebuild mode, it would make sense to cash in now on its most marketable asset and prepare for the future. The trio of Joe Banner, Michael Lombardi and Rob Chudzinski have a definite direction they're taking this team. They're not afraid to burn some bridges in the short term if it helps the long term, either.

Only time will tell if the plan works out.

Others can weight in but these guys get open quick.

Still get a feeling Gordon-s style better fits the Chiefs. Seems to like being called on and not afraid to go across the middle a bit more.

I obviously would love Gordon or Blackmon.. But the chances of it happening are very very slim. Not getting my hopes up..a Fred Davis type trade might have a chance of happening though

Isn't Blackmon facing the same suspension threat Gordon is?

Either gordon or Blackmon please! I'd give a first for either. **** it were 7-0 and likely won't be in this position a lot. Let's take the risk. Well have a late first anyways and gordon or Blackmon would be better than anything we could get likely

has trading a first for a WR ever worked out?

we sure as hell shouldn't give a first for a player already suspended once, that's like paying full price for a car that has been wrecked

weird how trading picks for a QB at any point is risky, but now we're just throwing our picks at anyone who will take them...not a smart long term strategy, or good short term value...

Completely disagree.

We need to add picks. We're going to lose some guys this offseason...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

who we going to lose? Brandon Albert? Dexter McCluster? Dunta Robinson? Jon Asamoah? Tyson Jackson?

good I'd rather we use our first rounder in a trade for an established WR than watch it go to another offensive or defensive lineman that might be green as grass and have growing pains his first 4 years in the league for a win now team.

Josh Gordon has top WR ability and has shown he can be damn good. I'm not sure we'd find a better WR where well be picking in rd 1 or if we dealt a 3rd.

You think we are going to keep ALL those guys even if we don't make a trade?

I think we are losing some of them regardless, and Josh Gordon and Blackmon are on their rookie contracts so they do come cheap

Blackmon would be a Beast for us. Gordon for a couple of third rounders-not a first. He was an undrafted rookie that sat out of football for 18 monts and then was suspended for weed. He is not worth a 1st.

That's true- remember Gordon would have been 2nd round money so he would be a GD steal and actually open cap space if you didn't have to allocate rookie $ towards a 1 or 2 .
