The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I've done it twice per week, usually on days when I'm not hitting the gym. But I've done it even with going to the gym. It's not bad. Once you skip breakfast, it's easy to keep fasting.

I have absolutely no problem not eating about the first 6 hours after I wake up. In fact, I prefer it. When I eat breakfast, I get hungry 2-4 hours later. When I don't, I won't get hungry until about 2 hours after I get back from the gym.

The reason I started forcing myself to eat breakfast is someone told me that your metabolism slows down when you skip meals, and it tries to store everything you eat for a period after. Please tell me that's bullshit and I can stop eating breakfast again. My calorie intake will go to 1200-1400 easily.

That's fine. Your metabolism CAN slow down if you skip meals... but only if you skip a lot of them all at once for a long period of time. If you're exclusively trying to build muscle like a bodybuilder on 'roids, skipping breakfast would be a bad idea, but that's not your goal, so skip away!

two more here,

But yeah, Red meats? Other than it's/their iron content, what good is it? Isn't it pretty much Krytonite?

Referencing breakfast, I'm NOT a fan, I mean, i like the greasy-spoon shit, but never roll out of bed hungry.
So, am I cool w/ a cup of oatmeal a banana and a tall glass of water?

Silock and others... how do you manage a calculated "Cheat Day"?

We had Chinese tonight, my first really non-healthy meal in a week. These are good to shock the system right?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with red meat. I mean, unless you're a vegetarian. Most of the calls against it comes from the fact that it's high in fat, which corn-fed beef IS. But there are still lean cuts of red meat you can buy, or you can buy grass-fed beef, which is high in omega-3s and has a lower fat content.

I'd throw in some good fats and protein, too. Some egg whites and olive oil would complement that breakfast nicely.

They can be. Just focus on calories per WEEK, not per day. That means you can eat what you like, just eat less overall.

Today:

One cup of oatmeal, two slices of thin whole-weat, one ounce of oven-roasted turkey.

Handful of cashews and one portioned bag of cauliflower spears w/ 1/2 tsp. of Poppy-seed Brianna's dressing.

Attempted four mile run outdoors, pulled up lame w/ side of knee, tender.
Ironic, I ran that route daily last summer.

came home, ate one skinless chicken thigh and two ounces of birdseye brocoli tossed w/ a little olive oil.

My plan tonight is to double up my ab routine and masturbate ferociously, later.

Sounds like runner's knee. Stretch your quads and see if it improves.

Almost made it 24 hours fasting. Still another 3 to go, but I'm sure I can make it. Might even go longer.

I need to stop but I only eat once a day, around seven at night. But I pay for it. I'm trying to get back into the workout routine. I'm completely atrophied and am starting to actually see problems (with lifting things and whatnot). Plus my metabolism is super low. I eat about 1500 calories a day, and am probably still about 22% bodyfat.

Depends. If you're an endomorph, stick to lean meats. But if you're an ectomorph looking to get BIGGER, you need all the calories you can get. But even with steak, lean red meat isn't that bad. Stay away from the prime rib, and go with some round steak. Its not as yummy, but its steak, and it won't totally kill you!

How do you know you only eat 1500 calories per day? Do you measure and weigh your food?

Even ectomorphs looking to get bigger don't need to eat shit calories to get bigger.

So is anybody here actually trying to gain weight? Not necessarily hardgaining, but just gaining weight and trying to maintain it.
