Chiefs Are 'Badly' Trying To Trade Down To Middle Of First*Round

Last year about this time, Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post first reported that the Chiefs were "in love" with LSU DE Tyson Jackson. A few days later and Jackson was the Chiefs pick in the draft.

Now Lombardi reports that the Chiefs are trying like hell to move down in the draft.

"The Chiefs are trying, and I mean really trying, to move down," Lombardi reports. "My sources tell me they'll be willing to go down as far as 15 for the right deal because they feel they can find a player in that range."

It's a fine line between trading down and trading down too far. According to Lombardi, our theory of the Eagles offering up the 24th and 37th picks for the Chiefs fifth pick doesn't look like it's happening. By staying around 15, they can still have a shot at a game changer -- Alabama LB Rolando McClain and Texas S Earl Thomas come to mind here -- as well as picking up extra selections.

That said, who's the Chiefs trading partner? SB Nation's Mocking The Draft takes an excellent look at this situation and comes to the conclusion that San Francisco might be the only team in that area that has a chance of moving up.

Lombardi reports the Chiefs are hoping someone wants to get in line to pick Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen.

I didn't say he hasn't lived up to his potential but not lived up to the hype.

People here act like he is a lock to be a probowler and all I am saying is I am not convinced yet.

I think he is very very close. Flowers is a very solid corner, but I don't rank him up there as one of the elite CB's in the league yet.

My reason for saying that, is, he failed to capitalize on given opportunities on more than 1 occasion. i.e., dropping sure interceptions.

To be a great cornerback in this league you gotta make the plays when they are there. That's what seperates him from being great imo.

Get a backup QB from someone else, push hard to trade down in the draft, etc etc.

When that shit happens, you have to look beyond the HC, though. The fact that Mr. It's all Locked Down in NE allowed those signs to go up is pretty shocking.

My point exactly. He has been close and just seems to miss the prime opportunity.

To be great you have to take advantage. I hope it happens but until he does he is just another "almost" great player.

Perhaps, but does Dick Vermeil allow that shit in his lockerroom? Marty? Even fellow neophyte hothead Mike Singletary? Singletary all but murdered Vernon Davis but he did it to his face, demanded that the individual be accountable and was rewarded with an elite player for his efforts.

I'm just hard pressed to come up with a coach worth a shit that I think might allow something like that. For some reason I'm thinking Jack Del Rio would.

When it comes to the lockerroom, it stops with the HC. If it doesn't, it damn well should and that's equally alarming.
