Who replaces him there? Stephenson, Schwartz, Allen???

I know he's a rookie, but from what I've been hearing is that he's been struggling in 1on1 drills etc. I know he's switching sides which can be a factor, esp at that high of a level expecting to do as well as you would from your strong side. But should an overall#1 pick be struggling like this, esp at an important position to where he kinda has to be thrown to the wolves early?

And if he ends up having a shitty season. Does this team invest in another tackle early in the draft again next season or go FA? That would drive this board ****in nuts LOL.

Meh. As long as he progresses, that is enough for me. He looked terrible at times, and good at times. This has to change, I agree with you on that, but I am willing to give it some time. Look at DJ, we all wrote him off as never going to live up to expectations, and look at him now. I understand Fischer was the #1 pick, but for the time being, he has the benefit of the doubt (for me anyways).

Tyson Jackson was drafted with the 3rd overall pick and given 57 million dollars. He was drafted and paid like a player who should be a franchise cornerstone, not a one-dimensional defensive end.

By all means, if you want to finish 2-14 continue to load up on top three picks like Tyson Jackson. Meanwhile, teams that actually win in the playoffs will take players who can give you that level of production in the 3rd-5th rounds.

For the level of investment, Tyson Jackson is a horrible ****ing player, just like for the level of investment Matt Cassel was a horrible ****ing player. If Cassel was given the league minimum and told to battle it out for the 3rd QB spot he's an asset. When he's your franchise player, you be ****ed.

The reason your ass gets fired for spending $20 million on R&D is because you could have gotten the same return for 1/100 of the investment. It's not the product development that is at fault, it is the initial commitment to its research.

The player, the quality of the play and the contract are inextricably tied to one another. The player does not exist in a vacuum. If he did, Eric Fisher is not on an NFL roster right now.

You'd think someone who posts on a sports-based message board would understand that players are only as good as the surplus value they provide for you.

A 2.0 WAR player making $20 million is not the same as a 2.0 WAR player making $800k.

Here's the rather elementary fact that seems totally lost on you: there are a fixed number of assets that NFL teams have. You only have so much money you can spend under the cap (even if you want to circumvent via bonuses), you only have so many draft picks and you only have so many roster spots.

In a game with fixed assets, the players that occupy your premium draft picks, take up massive chunks of the salary cap, and draw huge compensation are absolutely held up to a higher standard than those paid at near the minimum wage.

That's why higher things are expected of a CEO than a line worker. That's why an Editor is held to a higher standard than the guy loading the papers into the back of the truck, and it's why Tyson Jackson's play, while fine if he were drafted at the position Alex Magee was, is wholly inadequate.

He got the big check and the high draft pick. With that comes responsibilities, and he hasn't lived up to those responsibilities. He hasn't produced to a level commensurate with his compensation, and that's why he's criticized.
