@AdamSchefter: Chiefs are expected to trade CB Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, sources tell ESPN. Teams are in final stages of talks and barring an unexpected snag, the trade is expected to be agreed to as early as today.

@AdamSchefter: Marcus Peters to LA Rams trade is now officially agreed to, per source; cannot be processed until March 14. But Peters expected to be a Ram.

I don't think the Rams will part with any key guys when they are rolling the dice on a Peters to win with the guys they already have.

It's a win now move, so I expect just draft capital.

McVay already answered his first question/statement. March 14th is the date. I think his statement also addresses his last comment. Nothing to announce until it is official. Not official till the 14th.

This thread is too long to go back and see if this has already been mentioned....

810 reporting "rumors" that Peters had altercation with Dave Toub on the team bus. No confirmation if it was verbal/physical or both. But if true, it fits the player's profile. And may have been part of the overall reason the Chiefs' decided to part ways.

Adding a 25 year old shutdown CB to a roster filled with young talent is a win now and win in the future move.

There was no scheme that’s going to cover Phillip Gaines, Frank Zombo, Daniel Sorenson, a broken DJ, a broken Tamba, Kenneth Acker, Terrance Mitchell and Eric Murray.

We relied on those guys and not one of them should be starting on an NFL team.
Isn't that the game where Romo called out our defense for being so predictable, that a qb basically had two easy options to choose from?

They're eventually going to hit a wall on being able to pay their players. Next season they'll have Gurley and Donald to pay.....along with the 5th year option on Peters.

2. Chiefs probably getting a 1 or 2 in next years draft.

This sort of deal makes a ton of sense from the Chiefs perspective as the team probably values having two #1 picks next season (lets say its ours at #13 and the Rams at #27) than getting their pick this year.

Gives the Chiefs four second and third round picks to add a ton of depth which this team really needs. Then in 2019 you can got out an traft a couple studs to build out the defense.

1. The timeline works better
2. Helps the Chiefs manage the cap longer - more players on rookie deals. Allows us to keep our young talent in place.
Agree with the fact this is what the trade looks like.

Disagree with your automatically going to get a stud in the end of the first round or even the middle of the first round (let alone 2). Not sure about the timeline, we need to get better on the defensive end to compete and I was hoping for us to compete in 2018.

But it is more and more looking like the Chiefs front office was given a mandate to trade Peters before players enter the building and the above could be the best your getting when under such a mandate. Think one of the columns about Belichek indicated he was no longer willing to coach head cases, think Andy has entered that phase.

So What's This Mean for KC?
It would seem that the fans who believe that Peters should bring multiple 1st rounders in return, will be disappointed. That doesn't fit with the league's market value over the last 5 years. Terez Paylor of the Star has been trying to find out the compensation but there is not a lot of chatter out there. So he has to give us an educated guess.

If Terez thinks we are going to get second-round value, it would fit more along the lines of the Chandler Jones deal. Because LA doesn't have a 2nd round pick, the combo of picks would need to be along those lines. If we look at the draft trade chart, you will find that the Rams' 2nd round pick would have been #56 and the value would be 340 points.

So if we take Terez's assumption of 2nd round value, the Rams will need to provide between 340 and 360 points. 360 is the value of the Chief's 2nd round pick #54.

The Rams have the following picks (values following)

Rd 1 #23 - 760

Rd 3 #87 - 155

Rd 4 #124 - 48

Rd 5 #160 - 27.4

Rd 6 #194 - 13.8

Rd 6 #195 - 13.4

Rd 6 #198 - 12.2

They may or may not have a 7th round pick, however, it doesn't matter because it would be too low on the draft chart to have any value.

If we add up the value of the Rams' remaining picks after #23, we find they are worth 269.8. It doesn't make sense for the Rams to trade 6 picks for Peters because quantity has to figure into the equation. Hence the likelihood is a mix of picks in 2018 and 2019.

You figure pick #87 will be a main part of the compensation, this would cut the projected point total almost in half. If they throw in pick #160 the 5th rounder, you are nearly at the half-way point for 2nd round compensation. Through in a 2019 3rd rounder and you pretty much have 2nd round compensation.

Based on historical precedent and the draft value chart, Marcus Peters' trade compensation should be something along the lines of:
2018 3rd round pick #87
2018 5th round pick #160
2019 3rd round pick

In an ideal world, we would get a whole lot more for Marcus Peters and yet the NFL has shown us in the past that the real NFL is a lot different than many fan's expectations. I can't wait to see what the actual compensation is. however, the real return won't be known until the picks are used and the players perform on the field. So the actual trade may make you upset or relieved once it's announced but that still won't mean anything unless Veach uses it to create a playoff winner. Only time will tell.
