Matt Cassel: Good or Bad?

We may as well have an easy point of reference for people to be able to come back and eat their crow when this all pans out. Everyone always says I knew it all along. Step up and put it down.

I don't think a 2nd round pick is terrible, but I don't think Matt Cassel will pan out in KC. I'll put it down right here, right now. And now I'll start praying I'm wrong.

Forget the trade. The only thing I want you to commit too is whether or not Cassel is a good or bad choice for QBOTF.

Thigpen's stats were equivalent to Cassel's even though KC was ranked #31 in total offense in 2007 and NE was ranked #1 ALL TIME IN NFL HISTORY.
Cassel is being paid $15 million and Thigpen $400,000.

One of these QBs is a proven leader. One stepped into the perfect success story and qualified as average.
Where their stats equivalent? I dont think so. Not to mention hopefully you actually watched matt cassel play before saying this. The patriots o-line is way overrated, if you watched their games you seen that matt was constantly scrambling for his life, and it doesn't matter how good your receivers are if you cant put the ball in the right spots, cassel did that last year.

I dont know how many times i watched TT throw balls that weren't remotely close. Not to mention Cassel has more arm strength and accuracy, so in my opinion it is a big upgrade but maybe its the optimist in me.

What makes Sanchez a bonafide stud being a first round pick, and what makes Cassel a complete failure being basically a 2nd rounder.

Both have one year experience and both carry big time risks.

Agreed.
Now that the local media has started it's Monday break downs, I'm hearing a lot of the opinion that several people here have expressed, that being "he's an improvement to be for sure, but is he a franchise quarterback for the long haul"?

And it's a valid question.

Seriously?

Cassel had a QB rating of 89.4. Thigpen's was 76.0. Exactly the same.

Cassel completed more than 63% of his passes. Thigpen completed less than 55%. Identical.

Cassel averaged 7.2 yards per pass attempt. Thigpen averaged 6.1. Mirror images.

In the last two minutes of a half, Cassel had a 98.8 rating with 4 TDs and no picks. Thigpen had a 54.6 rating with 3 TD and 3 INT. Freaky.

Soren is the first I've heard to raise the question about how many sacks he took last year. That's my biggest concern.

I haven't read the entire thread.

Johnny's incoherent ramblings had me bouncing around a bit.

But here, how about some "Welcome Back" rep?

The sacks don't really concern me.

He was basically starting for the first time since HS. Of course he's going to hold the ball too long sometimes. That comes with the territory.
