This is really fascinating about the limited buzz on all these Royals.

But you can't produce a 38 hr bat at 3B, outside of Bryant. All 3 of our guys have great value and will get big dollars. Cain's only limit is his health |

Not really. Always figured Hosmer would be back. Moose had two likely spots who went with a trade and shortstop moved to third. Cain is an older risk so his market was always going to be slower. Now if Cain was Hosmer age. Damn his market would be off the charts.

Yeah I know, but it's still the same thing... it's not like he was already a star with the Padres. They found young talent and developed him. They didn't go out and pay nine figures for a 1B. Obviously most of those players were drafted, but the overall theme is acquiring young, controllable talent.

Let's talk about what a full Royal's rebuild looks like -
I think the Royals can ink Moose long-term. All this talk about a pillow deal doesn't make sense with the number of high profile FAs next year, especially at 3B. Duffy and Merrifield to the Yankees for Torres and Frazier? Herrera to the Dodgers for (who really knows what the reliever market looks like right now?) Maybe you can get something for Hammel/Soria? If you deal Duffy, does it buy you enough space to sign both Moose and Hos? Seems likely. Then you have a nice veteran base of Salvy, Hos, Moose for the next five years. |

Figures that FA has face planted and Moose and Cain likely won't get that 50 plus mill deal and the Royals get nothing right?

6 and 120 to San Diego seems like a far cry from the 200 million some were predicting to Boston.
This offseason has to be a disappointment to Hosmer. |

The Royals wouldn't get nothing. They would get comp picks after competitive balance round b in a situation where those guys sign for less than $50 million. I think both will end up north of that mark, anyway, but the Royals don't end up screwed if they don't.

6/120 to live in SD? Gosh, that's a bitter pill to swallow. I feel badly for him. He needs to take the $ and run if true. The fact he hasn't, makes me believe it isn't true - because he'd be a fool to turn that down.
Why is 120M a disappointment? He was never getting 200M from anyone. Really hard to fool GMs and analytics dept now. |

He's been doing these big money deals for a long time and for all the 9 figure guys, he insists on negotiating directly with the owners and by and large those owners have acquiesced. So while he's unlikely to fool a GM or their staff, he may be able to buffalo a 70 year old billionaire who treats player acquisitions like a dick measuring contest. That's why every year he seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat and people are left shaking their heads. He doesn't need to convince the industry that his valuation on a player is right - just one of 30 old rich guys, many of whom made their money in something that wasn't baseball. And by and large, he manages to pull it off.
