The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Also a reason why I was fat was because I was allowed to eat anything I wanted and cook it for myself (like hot pockets, chef boyardee). Not sure if you let him do that or not. I wish my Mom was more strict on that and only let me eat when she cooked a meal.

Shit. Look at him in his football picture. He's towering over all the other kids. Makings of an offensive tackle.

He has almost an identical build to the one I did growing up. I was very active as a kid. We didn't have the internet and shit. Hell, Nintendo came out when I was 9 or 10, but I still spent hours outside every day until I was about 15-16. I weighed something like 270 when I got my drivers license at 17.

My problem wasn't the activity levels, my problem was what I was being fed, and the ability to eat as much as I wanted of it. I've just always loved to eat. I grew up on a Missouri diet. My mom was born and raised there, so that was the fare we were fed.

I didn't explode until I hit my 20's. But by then, the patterns were set. I was just doing what I'd always done. Only I didn't have the cooking anymore so it became fast food.

I say all of this because I never ever knew any better. I don't want to see that happen to anyone else.

I am not saying he is morbidly obese or anything. Maybe he'll thin out when he hits his growth spurt. Until then I would be watching his diet. I was skinny as **** before I hit puberty and then BAM, fatso began to emerge. My parents did nothing.

And yes, it's all about diet. Especially for kids, who love to eat.

Yeah, I agree. As long as he's happy with it. Most kids really aren't.

He loves to eat, though, and he's not inclined toward being active (he has a genetic condition that has made him delayed in gross and fine motor skills). As such, we've got to stay on top of his diet and activity levels.
Thx, I think he is a gorgeous kid, of course. His genetic condition is the same as mine, solid and strong on the chubby side..lol..he doesn't eat bad now, doesn't even drink soda except on occasion.

He has to ask for snacks, he does eat salad and raw veggies, we love raw veggies.

He plays both lines, more offense though. I think a defensive right guard and then offensive tackle on the left side, I think...lol

The picture was last season, the third grade team. One other boy is taller more solid, Nathan reaches this boys eye brows.

He asks for snacks at home, but what does he eat at school? It's way too easy for kids to drink 2-3 sodas a day at school these days.

I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just calling it like I see it. The boy is pudgy.

Last year we made changes to our diets, no more soda, not much eating out, more veggies and fruit. He is aware of what can happen and what needs to be done to prevent it. I was a pretty chunky girl growing up myself.

Awesome.

A lot of people don't know what's going on in regards to their body and what they're eating. I sure didn't. Sounds like you guys have a pretty good handle on it.

Not in our state. Any non-diet sodas have been banned from vending machines at schools (not that diet sodas are the best things in the world).

I would've been in heaven had that been the case when I was a kid. I was already slinging soda pop out of a cooler in my duffel bag when I was in school. I was undercutting the vending prices. Had it not been available, I would've made some good coin.

He is still in elementary school, they don't have vending machines. He has breakfast at school normally, I provide his daily morning snack, then they have lunch with milk. Sometimes he will have a snack after school, depends when dinner will be ready and once in a while if I have an early dinner he may have a snack afterward. Besides football, what is helping most is him getting away from video games. He is also a big water drinker.
