I don't understand why everyone is surprised that every year in free agency, huge contracts are handed out to average players. Contracts aren't going down...

Teams have to make a play to sign players who otherwise wouldn't sign there.

It was a bad contract and it's still a bad contract.

He didn't put up the numbers for that level of contract. He had health concerns that didn't warrant a contract like that. If he would have waited he could have signed Golden Tate for less than that and ended up with a better player.
