Chiefs Have a Plan for Patrick Mahomes’ Upcoming Mega-Extension

Good interview with Veachy.

Also, TheRinger needs a better editor. It’s not Mahomes’s, brah.

Ehhh just pay his personal trainer whatever. Funny how once the Patriots cut off bradys trainer from seeing other players at the stadium Brady wants more money, at least IMO.

I am happy to hear they have been planning for the day. You don't really think about it, at least I don't, but I bet this isn't new NFL exec thinking.

I thought this tidbit about his approach with the secondary was interesting.

Quote:
Veach knows it’s harder to build a defense than ever before. This is of particular interest to the Chiefs because they were a few defensive mistakes away from the Super Bowl last year. “The challenge is that corners are relied upon because you just have to have so many of them,” he said. “You don’t see base packages anymore. We’re running [dime and nickel] most of the time. So now you don’t just have to find two corners, two safeties, you have to find four safeties and four corners and they are spread out. These guys aren’t just backups they are playing, they are going higher in the draft, harder to get in free agency. Acquiring enough to last the whole season is difficult.”

$25 million a year for 10 years with a $25 million signing bonus to hire his BFF as a trainer. Now, mr. Mahomes, how does a $5 million a year sound for 10 years?

Yeah, I think it shows in how he allocates his resources. Would you rather have 1 lock down CB and 3 scrubs? or 4 better-than-average CB's?

Or zoom out and say would you rather have 2 superstars and 6 scrubs in the secondary, or 1 star coupled with the other 7 spots a mix of young draft talent and proven, stable vets?

The key to everything is to draft well, and it appears that we've done just that this year with Thornhill.

I'm pretty sure an apostrophe followed by s when describing a proper noun or a person indicates ownership of the ensuing noun.

I could be wrong I haven't been in an English class in quite some time, but that's how I remember the reasoning.

I think that’s exactly it. The “shutdown” corner is devalued in this speed offense era.

Also makes teams draft DBs earlier given the numerical needs.

Ironically, I think the result is that the price for FA CB’s and Safeties is significantly devalued.

Stars will be retained or signed quickly, but mid level guys won’t get anywhere near what they want.
