Nah that was in 96 when we were just sort of a feel good story.

The 2002 team was more a team of destiny type just had an amazing run and was pretty skilled.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Closest they ever got was the quarterfinals in 2002. Though in 2002 they were sorta screwed and probably deserved to advance to the semifinals.
According to Wiki, we placed 3rd in 1930. Or is that not considered valid? Looks like only 13 teams qualified.

I'm kind of interested in soccer, but admittedly ignorant about a lot of it.

For us to win the World Cup would be on the order of magnitude of

-USA beating Russia in 1980 in Hockey
-Francis Oumlet beating Harry Vardon in the 1913 US Open
-The Broncos defeating the Packers to end a 15 AFC Super Bowl losing streak
-Spliting an atom
-Superman reversing time in the 1977 Motion Picture Superman.

In other words it would unpossible.

We aren't going throw a game for Mexico.

The draw to set for group play is December 6th.

Never said we would throw a game for any specific reason.

My statement was that the football Gods helped Mexico get into the World Cup and we played a part of that with the last minute goal (forgot against who...)
