I wonder what Khomeini's view on magnets are?

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An Iraqi national wearing wires and concealing a magnet inside his rectum triggered a security scare at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday but officials said he posed no apparent threat.

I'm not makin' excuses. I'm providing perspective instead of looking it soley through a modern lens or an American lens.

But you're incorrect if you include everyone today. There's a group called NAMBLA in the US. And there are others who want to lower the age of consent. Some European countries have moved it down to age 12 as well.

Just because it's not condoned or in the open doesn't mean bestiality isn't practiced either. It's a matter more of a society tolerating it.

For that matter, they practice infanticide in China and India and that is today as well. In India a mother may throw her newborn into the Gange's river to die. This is appalling to me as it is to most westerners...but if you intervene they don't allow it as it's that baby's karma. You don't interfere with karma. It's a religious thing. That baby is supposed to come back and be better off as it climbs the caste system. India is just as degraded as the ME. In fact a good portion of the world is outside the west.

No there is nothing on beasts that I know of. I'm not saying they're enlightened; just that they are an old culture.

I am not sure on age of females though. I wouldn't think that is in the Bible per se, but I wouldn't put it past someone at that time either not as a matter of religion but of culture.

However, Abraham was ordered by God in the Bible to sacrifice his son Isaac.
That was to test absolute obedience to God. That's human sacrifice and that to me is worse.

Sarah the wife of Abraham, gave him her maid-servant Hagar for sex.

Also, animals were put on trial in Europe at one time too.

Well here's a history of bestiality. Some other cultures have practiced it.
It's not allowed per this by the Abrahamic religions.

Quote:
Prior to and outside the influence of the major Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), sex with animals (also known as zoophilia, or bestiality) was sometimes forbidden, and sometimes accepted. Occasionally it was incorporated into religious ritual.[citation needed] The Abrahamic religions by and large forbid it, and make it a sin against God,[1] and during the Middle Ages in Europe people and animals were often executed if found guilty. With the Age of Enlightenment, bestiality became subsumed into sodomy and a civil rather than religious offence.

Wow. My wife worked in a hospital and came home with a story about a 29 year old grandma. And I thought that was bizzare.

Plato said that both sexes needed to be on equal footing in order to have a just society (now that was the ruling class). The notion of Chivalry in Europe added in with Renaissance started the process of providing equal footing culminating in the right to vote for women in the 20th Century. After Blacks (at least men) got the vote. Indeed in many colleges blacks were admitted before women as being first in the Virginia colony before women. (Bolds well for Obama vs Hillary).

It is the lack of such footing in Islamic practice that does make such culture inferior as in dated.

But BEP is right there are several colonies or population of people that regular dress up their under 12 year old girls to be paired off with older men here in the US. And I don't mean just the renegade Mormon cults.

Who me?

I'm as straight as an arrow.
My value set is traditional morality, descending from Judeo-Christian ethics pretty much. But any theology I hold is a bit ecletic.

Just sayin' the rest of the world is very different outside the west.
When you're outside the west, it feels strange...it's so different.

Thank you.

I know many will disagree with this but I read this really cool book about women's lives in the Renaissance, which was a step back from the Medieval
era for women. Per what I read chivalry stems from reverence for the Mother of Jesus, Mary. Even Muslim's rever Mary. Chivalry was fueled by this in the Medieval era.

It was also, the RCC that helped do away with wife beating and to have marriage based on some affinity, as marriage was a very mercenary affair at one time. It was mostly about alliances of families who could bring wealth or stature or both. When the aristocracy started to decline, they even began to marry "beneath" their class in order to survive economically and married more into the merchant classes. That was scandalous at one time. Back then to marry for love was absolutely scandalous. You just did not do that. They couldn't survive. It was the only way to improve one's station in life. Today, be open about marrying for money and it's the opposite.

The Christian (Greek Orthodox) Emperor (or Crown Prince, I can't recall) of the Byzantine Empire, the largest empire in Christendom, was once married to a 9 year old girl. He, at the time, was a 10 year old boy, of course, so as moral relativism goes it wasn't quite so bad of course, but it's not like prepubscent marriage back in <1,000 AD was the absurdlly illegal and obviously immoral thing it is today.

and incest is rather rampant in the Bible:

http://www.apologeticspress.org/modu...12&itemid=2177

I'm not a big fan of radical Islam, but my lack of respect for it doesn't derive from issues relating to whether or not Mohammad married a kid.

Ok, seriously, you believe this is an honest quote? Read the bolded one. What religious nut ever said something remotely like that, or laid down a religious law or whatever by saying that X is wrong, but Y should be fine. It doesn't sound remotely plausible to me.

I'm not going to go off and research this, but just on the face of it, it seems unlikely to be a correct quotation of a religious leader.
