Make a splash.
Right now, overthecap has given us about $50m to play with.
Here's the roster heading, with impending FAs listed in red. You guys, the Chiefs have been trying to pay Jonesy for a year.
It's not going to happen. |

Do I have to make a splash? Or can I just keep using it to try to keep a good young defense intact and work in the margins?
Because I don't really want to give a FA wide receiver big money and long-term and I DEFINITELY don't want to give a FA defensive player a big deal either; those go bad WAY more often than they don't. But I've really liked the development of Danna. I think Sneed can be had on a deal we can get out of after 3 years (he was an older rookie; he'll be 27 next year so term matters). I'd rather hang onto the guys we've seen succeed and grow here than take what's behind door #2. Lets do that and then find a middle class contract for an interior DL like Teair Tart.

We don't have enough draft capital to trade up to the 2nd pick unless we promise 2 future 1st rd picks and a few 2's and 3's because we will be picking very low in the future drafts because we win. But I like your idea

Do you think our 1 and a tag and trade of Jones might do it for a team picking high?

I don't think anybody is prying 1.1 out of whoever gets it. Now maybe if a QB needy team lands at 1.2, you could overpay to move up there and take Harrison Jr but that teams STILL not going to want to fall any lower than 3 for Drake Maye. When you have 3 really really good guys at the top of the draft, 2 of whom appear to be legit 'franchise' quarterbacks (as opposed to Bryce Young) then you have a really difficult draft board to break into. I just don't see it happening.

I'd rather go up for a LT but there are gonna be some really good DL prospects in this draft too.

I'd really like to give Bert more firepower, not less. A trade up involving some of next year's capital wouldn't bother me greatly (but wouldn't move you up much in the first) but i don't think I want to take any bullets out of his gun in the 2024 draft class. It looks awfully strong.

Other than Mahomes, most of our eite guys were "flyers" Kelce - 3rd Jones - 2nd Sneed - 7th Bolton - 2nd Those types are available. Keep taking those swings. Make splashes that way. Obviously we paid for Thuney and Taylor. Those moves are still going to be necessary, but we need to seek value. |

I'd just prefer to not have to keep bandaiding the LT spot, but if Wanya could developed there that would be huge. Honestly, that's the route I'd probably take just from a cost standpoint. He may not ever be an actual high end LT, but even if he's 80% of an elite player, you're gaining alot.

My semi-reasonable dreams at this juncture are probably Ebuka at WR or Newton at DT. |

I don't like a first round WR with what we already have unless one they just love falls.
I think you just keep stacking the DL. |
