Erhardt-Perkins isn't a monolith, though. Look at the differences in the way the Pats offense ran with Weis vs. McDaniels.

At that point, you're going too far back in finding the common ancestor. Degrees of variance are better established in the offshoots that emerged in the late 60's early 70's, IMO.

It doesn't matter how far back you go to find the common ancestor.

The fact is, each offense played today is a direct offshoot of Gillman's offense.

Al Davis, Chuck Noll, Dick Vermeil and Bill Walsh all worked for him at one time.

They all learned his offense and had a part in developing the offenses known as the WCO, Earnhardt-Perkins, Air Coryell, and Al Davis' vertical offense.

The list of coaches that have fallen from each of those trees is too damn numerous to list.

You seem to be missing the point. At that time, there wasn't really variance. Once they diverged is when the modern offenses started to evolve in far disparate manners.

One could extend your argument further to say that all modern offenses are an offshoot of the Power T, because they are.
