Movies that were "Almost" Good

I thought about this while watching Mine on Netflix last night. It's by no means a bad film, and I actually enjoyed Armie Hammer for once (although God, did I love when his annoying-as-**** spotter got murked), but it fell just short due to convolution in the narrative and some overwrought scenes.

What are some of the films that you feel like had the potential to be much better than they were but fell just short, and why?

Or maybe it's just because Connery was 55 at the time.

Same thing happened with Richard Castellano (Clemenza) in Part 2. The Frank Pentangeles character was originally intended to be Clemenza. As good as Part 2 was, that would have made it so much better.
That old guy creeping around Michael Corleone was strange, I remember thinking maybe he's a ghost and others can't see him and other people in the movie don't really acknowledge him either or even appear to look at him. Then he got shot towards the end then I remember thinking oh I guess he's real after all.

Too boring a movie for me a with the exception of the young Vito scenes and certainly doesn't live up to the first one.

That was my understanding, that aging stopped once a fatal wound happened. I always wondered what happened if an immortal died of old age.

Beat me to it, I know it's one of their most popular but I only watch about 2/3's of that movie. Killing the lead actor is not good, but killing him off-screen is even worse.

I guess I should list the new Godzilla movie in this.

It was definitely fun. Great fan service to long time G-fans. Crowd pleaser.

Was it good though? Eeeeh. Probably not to people who aren't fans of big monster movies. The motivations of the antagonist/s is weak, the main protagonist is a male-mary-sue, and the resolution of the human characters is terrible.

Monster stuff = great.
Human stuff = bad, even with talented cast...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Sunshine. Awesome 3/5 of a movie about a desperate attempt to reignite the sun before Earth freezes over. They try to take into account actual space physics (ala The Expanse) with a great cast. Then it turns into a horror survival movie.

Aaron Johnson is a garbage actor. I roll my eyes when I hear the "generic white man" trope but damn if he isnt the living embodiment. And killing off Cranston right away?

I think he's talking about the sequel...I mentioned Godzilla 14 earlier and that was my biggest criticism, the characters sucked and the only interesting one is gone way too soon.

They were close though...the sense of scale, dread, terror, and awe is well done IMO.

I have a killer surround sound, 5.1 and all big speakers, and a 75" screen. The soundtrack to Sunshine is so overwhelming that the ending, as strange as it may be, makes the film out of this world.

That one is actually a guilty pleasure of mine.

I'm probably a bit biased as far as teleportation goes though. If I had my choice of superpower, teleportation would be it. Easily.
