He sucks. He may have been good or fast in the past, but he isn't now. He's on pace for 33 tackles this season. That's inexcusable for a LB.

I had high hopes for Bell, but he clearly is not going to be worth his 2006 cap hit.
Yep, agree. Especially when you back it up with a statement like this....

So do you think that the return of Ryan Sims will help this situation?

Bell has been a ridiculous dissapointment. Sad and inexcusable.

Thank goodness he signed to a cap friendly deal -- KC can cut his ass without much worry.

I noticed the same thing on that play. Before I looked at the number, I thought it must be a lineman or maybe Maslowski. Bell's whole problem is that he is sloooooow. Assigning him to blitz would be laughable. We need to dump him after the season.

Which means the Chiefs will keep him and make him the new "falcon" 'backer ... you know, to showcase his talents.

Is it just me, or have the Chiefs lost all ability to pick decent FA linebackers?

Bell was a MLB in Pittsburgh under cowher.

I think he's playing completely out of position as a OLB. There's a possibility that this guy is still playing with some fear of reincurring his injury? But I remember watching him when he was in Pittsburgh, he is for real. But looking at his body frame in a chiefs uniform, he looks a little soft. I mean this guy used to be cut .. you can see it from his shoulders and arm. I don't think he's in football form... I'll leave the benefit of the doubt on him til next year. He needs to get his killer instincts back and work himself back in the offseason to be the player he was ...

I used to wonder why the coaches kept him out practices in training camp and pre-season now... they knew he wasn't ready.

But trust me fellas, when Kendrell returns to form...you'd vote him for president!!!!

I don't see how a player who has only played a handful of games can be considered a bust already. Give the guy a chance before sailing him down the river. This eerily sounds like all the LJ bashers.

He's not a rookie, he should be able to play by now. He's a starting LB for christs sakes.

I don't have a lot of faith in this boards ability to judge talent, usually I differ to what the coaches think, but in this case if there is something there worth being optimistic about I'm not seeing it. He simply isn't doing jack, and the times I've zoomed in on him to watch him, he gets taken out of the play by the first blocker to get to him.

I think sometimes we're enamored with the stats that don't matter. We look for flash when substance is what's really important.

Last year we allowed just under 115 yards rushing at 4.6 ypc, and gave up 18 rushing TDs. This year we have what amounts to the same defensive line, but we're giving up less than 90 yards rushing at a 3.9 ypc clip. We've only allowed 5 rushing scores. Kendrell Bell has been a big part of that.

He hasn't been what I thought he'd be, either. I envisioned a big sack total, a blur off the edge, maybe more of a playmaker. What we've gotten is a hard-nosed, hard-hitting linebacker who's attacked blocking linemen and helped funnel plays to the guys around him. Kawika Mitchell is having the year he's having in no small part because of Bell's play. The same can be said of Derrick Johnson. The fact is, the guy's been involved in a number of plays, and he's been, I think, an important catalyst in the vastly improved rush defense. He's looked more comfortable of late dropping into zone in passing situations, too.

Now, would I like to see a little more pass rush presence? Sure, although frankly we don't seem to use him that way as often as I expected. But I'm not going to complain about what we're getting. He's not a bust, not in any way. The defense is better, clearly and obviously better, particularly at the linebacker position. We're good there, across the board, for the first time in my memory. So Johnson and Mitchell are reaping the benefits of that, building up the big (but ultimately empty) tackle stats. Big deal. Bell's been a part of the equation, too. A big part. We're playing better because he's on the field, same as with Knight and Surtain.

Maybe the stats aren't as flashy as we'd like, but the results, as a unit, are looking pretty good from where I'm sitting.

I still think that Pittsburgh sent us the wrong guy. Every time I see him on the field, I think he looks like a stocky safety, not a linebacker.
