RUMOR: Raiders sign Brady Quinn

By Mark Maske
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, April 27, 2007; Page E01

NEW YORK, April 27 -- In a stunning last-minute twist, the Oakland Raiders agreed to a contract with Brady Quinn and announced they will use the top pick in tomorrows NFL draft on the Notre Damn quarterback instead of on LSU quarterback Jamarcus Russell.

Did you watch Quinn in that same bowl game?

Neither NFL Network nor ESPN is running anything on this story. You'd think they'd be all over it. Also, I went to the Washington Post's sports page and couldn't find anything on it. If someone finds a link, please post it.

Raiders | Deal with Cleveland a possibility?
Fri, 27 Apr 2007 12:05:48 -0700

ESPN's Ed Werder reports there is a chance the Oakland Raiders work out a trade with the Cleveland Browns during the first round of the NFL Draft. There is speculation the Browns could send WR Braylon Edwards to the Raiders in addition to the No. 3 pick overall for the first-overall selection.

No shit. Assuming this story isn't BS.

People can say he sucked against good competition, but in those games, the ND defense gave up an average of 37 points.

He was playing from behind more often than not in those games, and still managed a respectable 17 TD v. 12 INT's.

He may struggle for a year or so until they can get him an OL, but the kid is gonna be a star, and he's by far the smartest guy in the draft.

I hope for his sake, and for ours, this report is BS.

Oakland has a framework contract in place with Quinn, Russel, and A. Peterson. Standard procedure, means nothing. The number 1 overall pick is the only player allowed to agree to terms before hand.

RUMORS FLY OF QUINN TO RAIDERS

There are rumors right now in media circles that the Raiders are closing in on a deal with (drum roll, please) Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, who would then be named the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network tipped us off to the rumor -- however, Schefter thinks that the rumor is not true. Mark Maske of the Washington Post acknowledges the rumor in a Friday afternoon chat, but he says he's not reporting that the deal is done.

We heard earlier in the week that the Raiders had made an initial offer to Quinn. We have since heard that, while hard numbers were not presented to Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, there was enough discussion about parameters and terms to give him a sufficient idea as to the ballpark amount of the deal.

I do think the fact that LSU has a good defense and Notre Dame's defense is total crap was kind of overlooked in that game.... but with Russell's tools I can't believe Al Davis would pass him up.

I call total BS on the Browns giving up #3 AND Braylon Edwards for #1.

Romeo Crennel is on the hot seat this year, he needs to win asap and it's not going to help matters if they give up their #1 wideout.

Sounds like the Raiders PR machine is in full effect.
