Broncos want Chiefs safety

I know its old news but appears as fresh talks. I'm still against trading him to a rival.

Broncos want Chiefs safety
Posted: Tuesday July 24, 2007 10:24AM ET
The Broncos have repeatedly talked with Kansas City in the past month about the trade availability of safety Greg Wesley. Wesley's agent, Drew Pittman, confirmed the teams have talked because Wesley is hoping for a change of scenery and the Broncos are looking for depth at safety. The Broncos likely are offering a low-round pick and perhaps a backup player. The Chiefs are looking for help at cornerback

Why would Denver initiate talks with KC about a trade if they weren't to give up more then market value? That would be a pretty dumbass move.

I guess Denver might have realized how horrible Wesley has been, and this is just a tactic to scare us into keeping him on our roster for another year.

Oh, and John Lynch is old as dirt and Nick Ferguson is a free agent next year and the 2008 safety class sucks.

In 2 years Champ Bailey will be 31 and Dre' Bly will be 32. It's going to be fun to see this supposedly dominant secondary fall apart with age.
Yeah, the Broncos' safety unit isn't strong, but I wouldn't hail Bailey and Bly as ancient at the age of 31 and 32. That's taking a bit of a leap there, especially since we currently have CBs ages 31 and 33, and we're doing pretty good.

I'll say this much - if the Broncos had Greg Wesley, they'd finally have a safety who I'd be in fear of making a play.

Hmmm... Surtain is 31 now. Law is 33 now. Right?

Help me out, so in 2 years... Bly and Bailey will be as old as your CBs are now. Ok.

Lynch is old, but still brings it. And, I'll take my chances with Cox and Abdullah the Butcher, I mean ... Wesley is a spare, right?

Wesley has always been deceiving because of his big play ability. Is it worth the big play if it cost three or four blown plays in exchange?

Denver sees a talented player who's very unhappy in Kansas City.

They figure a change of scenery will inspire his play.

They might be right. It's not a bad gamble, but the mental errors Wes' makes have been pervasive throughout his career, and they've been exacerbated in recent years with his unhappiness on the team.

That's about as good a summary of his time in KC as any.

A change of scenery has helped many players... How about Kennison? Another team's trash is another team's treasure fairly regularly in the NFL.

#2. Wes for Foxworth, straight up.

#3. Wes for Paymah and a 7th.

#4. Wes for a 5th and Reid.

I think #1 is most likely. #2 would be a great trade for both teams, but I don't think Shanahan or Broncos Nation wants to part with Fox, #3 would be a good deal for Denver and a marginal hosing for KC, and #4 would be a good deal for KC and a marginal hosing for Denver.
Not that you could make any of those trades but if you could pull of those steals you would deserve to be a GM.

I can see why Denver wants Wesley on their team.

I don't see why they would initiate talks with us, with the honest goal of acquiring him, if they didn't also realize we would want more from them then a non-divisional opponent.

Have you paid any attention to Shanahan when it comes to trades? I think he'll talk to and approach any team, with the exception of the Raiders. What's the harm with inquiring? Make a low ball offer and see what happens.

Shanahan isn't going to call Carl and say "Hey, I know we don't like each other... so, what if I gave you a R2 for that guy...".

Cox and Abdullah are SS by nature, though, and I think making the transition to FS might be tricky for them. They're just third year players.

Wes is comfortable in the FS slot, and outside of Ferguson, you've got nothing there. Harris isn't likely to make the team, IMO.

Wesley isn't exactly trash or "a spare" as you mentioned. He has more interceptions in the last five years than every safety on your roster COMBINED.

Again, who knows what will happen and we're not talking about a big name guy, so I'm not going to worry about anything until a deal is done. Some guy for a late round pick just doesn't do much for me. The only interesting piece is the 2 teams involved.

Ok - I'm out, later.

That's fantastic. Maybe you missed the point... he's trash in the sense that KC simply doesn't want him anymore and is looking for something in return rather than just cutting him. That equates to trash in my opinion.
