Green to undergo further tests after suffering grade-three concussion

DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Trent Green was knocked unconscious with a grade-three concussion -- the most severe -- and he'll undergo further tests on the career-threatening injury to determine his future.

ESPN Radio: Golic's take

ESPN Radio's Mike Golic doesn't blame Texans DL Travis Johnson for reacting as he did on Dolphins QB Trent Green because Johnson was inches from getting his knees taken out. Golic thinks the competition committee has to take a closer look at this. Listen

Green has been ruled out of Sunday's game at Cleveland a day after he was injured against Houston. Coach Cam Cameron declined to discuss the possibility the injury will prompt the 37-year-old Green to retire.

"I don't think we really know the full extent, because there are some ongoing tests," Cameron said Monday. "Right now I just think there are too many unknowns."

Green was hurt in Sunday's loss to the Texans. He was motionless on the field before being carted away and taken to a hospital, but he flew home with the team.

A severe concussion in the 2006 opener sidelined Green for half of last season when he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. Following that injury, there were concerns about his durability when the Dolphins acquired him in June.

Cleo Lemon, who replaced Green at Houston, will make his second NFL start against the Browns. The Dolphins and St. Louis Rams are the only teams with 0-5 records.

This is indeed sad news; it would have probably happened here as well if he had stayed in KC. IMO

I hope he gets well soon; I can't imagine this not marking the end of his career.

I remember the '99 preseason with the Rams where he was 28 of 32 in four games, with no picks. Everybody was like - Who the hell is this guy? Then Rodney Harrison solidified his staus as an All-World dick.

Until this last offseason anyway. Sure wished he'd have accepted the backup spot here to Brodie. He would have made a much better mentor for him than we have now. Brodie would have sure benifited from coming off the field and discussing what happened on the last series with Trent.

Very true. I think it ended for Trent when they came to him in the offseason and asked him to take a pay cut. I'd be pissed about that, too.

You guys are letting Trent off too easy. He needs to man up, go out there, and get us our 4th round draft choice.

How would you like to see DV and Trent on a broadcast at the same time?

I can't decide if it would HIGHLY informative and good or if they'd be slobbering all over themselves.
