DeSean Jackson

I'm curious if people would be upset if the Chiefs drafted him in the 5-8 range (assume Long and Dorsey are off the board).

I look at him as the explosive touchdown / big-play maker that this team desperately needs. The team right now has no explosive open-field player who can take the ball all the way every time he touches it. Bowe, Gonzalez, LJ, and Kolby are all move-the-chain types - they're not explosive. Plus big plays on special teams determine so many close games, as the Bears showed last year. I think he's a much more polished receiver than Ted Ginn was last year, coming from Tedford's pro-style offense. And remember Herm's first draft pick as a head coach was Santana Moss, who won many games for him with big punt returns and catches.

I think it's a legitimate comparison in terms of both measurables and production.

He projects as Hester-like more predictably than Jake Long projects as Roaf-like in my opinion. You can see the athleticism, and he clearly has the vision and elusiveness of a dominant return man.

His projection as a receiver is much less predictable, but he would be a temendous asset on receiver screens, reverses, and fly patterns while he adapts to NFL offense and builds up his strength against the jam. As a complement to Gonzalez and Bowe, he would be deadly.

yes we would...the only difference is that we wouldn't have a true #1 WR...

man, can't believe anyone thinks drafting Bowe was a mistake...that was the best draft pick since Tony...

Other than highlights, I've only seen him play three times - all against USC. I've never seen anything in those games to warrant a top 10 pick.

If we had taken him at 5, it would've been a huge mistake.

I don't disagree, but saying it'd be a mistake to take a guy like that unless it's after round 3 or saying he'll suck because he's not 6'2 210 is reeruned. The guy is a player.
