Claythan, here's an interesting situation developing....

If the Chiefs hire Mike Shanahan, the coach you've been wanting for so long, that could mean that Tyler Thigpen becomes the Chiefs' QBOTF.

While Shanahan seemed to like Cutler, Thigpen is the mobile, bootlegging QB that he's always loved.

Just a thought.

I do not hate Tyler Thipgen. I want him to succeed. I just doubt him.

Shanahan is not coming to KC. He wants to go to a winning team that is ready to win now. If Shanahan came to KC he would need 4 new O-lineman- 3 new WR's, a new QB, new RB, new TE (TG is getting old), 3 new D-lineman, 3 new linebackers... And Shanahan wouldn't have control of personnel decisions like he is accustomed too.

If Shanahan wanted to rebuild a 2-14 team from the ground up (which he doesn't) he would want to be able to pick his players.

This idea that it takes 3-4 years to rebuild an NFL team in today's day and age is ludicrous.

You guys have been rebuilding for 2 or 3 years already, Oakland has been rebuilding for the past 6 seasons, Denver has been rebuilding the defense for the past 2 seasons.

The Dolphins and Falcons were average teams with a decent defense already there. They played "Martyball" with their running game all season and then were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

No we haven't been rebuilding for two or three years.

Yes, we had some draft picks come in and play in '06 and '07, but the Chiefs were trying to plug some holes with vet free agents like McIntosh and Nap Harris to continue the cycle of mediocrity that we've endured for years.

The rebuild started with blowing up the roster and playing a bunch of rookies in '08.

We have been "rebuilding" with two complete morons in charge. We weren't rebuilding; we were Detroit South.

Shanahan would take Cutler over Plummer. He would also take Stafford/Sanchez over Thigpen.

I could understand to start the season... but not as the future.

I agree. But he's done a decent job last year and hopefully will develop this off season. He has nothing but to get better.

Absolutely. And LJ could be one of those down hill, cutback runners that Denver has thrived on.

I'm not so sure that's true. Shanahan did decide to bench Cutler for Plummer, but I don't know if he's happy with that decision or if he regrets it. The Broncos were an astounding 40-19 with Plummer as their QB. So far, they are 17-20 with Cutler as their starter. But yes, Sanchez seems like a guy who could be exceptional at a Plummer-type role.

I think Plummer was absolute garbage, but there is no doubt that the Broncos' offense under Plummer was a lot scarier than it was under Cutler. Shanahan's playcalling during the Plummer era was masterful, even if the QB he had was pretty lousy and inconsistent. I don't know that I have ever seen an offense with so much trickery and misdirection in my life. It's interesting that Shanahan had so much success with Elway and Plummer, but limited success with Griese and Cutler--two guys who were more pocket passers than they were guys he can roll out.
