Source: Chiefs' Gonzalez wants out
Didn't see this posted already...
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ml?eref=si_nfl KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Contrary to remarks by Kansas City owner Clark Hunt, Tony Gonzalez wants to be traded if the right deal can be made, a person close to the Pro Bowl tight end told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Asking not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject, the person said Gonzalez was surprised that Hunt had said the Chiefs were definitely not going to trade their 10-time Pro Bowler. "If the right deal can be made, Tony very much wants the Chiefs to trade him," the person said. "Tony is not demanding a trade. Tony cherishes the time he's spent with the Chiefs and he loves the way he's always been treated by the fans there. But he knows of some other teams that would be interested in him and if the right deal can be made, he wants it to be made." A Chiefs spokesman said Hunt could not be immediately reached. At the owners' meeting in Dana Point, Calif., on Monday, Hunt said the Chiefs had decided not to deal Gonzalez, whose many NFL records includes the most catches, yards receiving and touchdown receptions by a tight end. "We certainly will not seek a trade for Tony," Hunt told The Kansas City Star. "I think he's excited about the changes we've made here. I think he recognizes that with Todd (Haley) as the head coach, we're going to have an exciting offense and one that will feature the passing game." Since the end of a 2-14 season, the Chiefs have installed Scott Pioli as general manager and Haley as head coach. The 33-year-old Gonzalez asked to be traded last October. But then-general manager Carl Peterson said no team that Gonzalez was willing to go to made a good enough offer. The only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, Gonzalez was usually double-teamed last year but still caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns. He plans on playing at least one more season and possibly two. "If the Chiefs can't make a deal with the right team, then Tony will be fine with that," The AP was told. "He is not demanding a trade. But if the right deal can be made, he very much would like to be traded." |

While I can understand why Tony would want a trade, its best we keep him on. He has shown that despite the trade drama, he will go out and play hard every week. This team needs someone that a new QB can rely on when needed. If Gonzales goes, Bowe will never see a passing down that he doesn't get double teamed again. The Chiefs have few enough weapons on offense they can hardly be able to give them away. We still have a weak offensive line that has not proved it can run block or protect the QB. We still have no other recievers on this squad that can consistently catch balls. This team without Tony Gonzales would be a contender for 0-16.

I have no problem with this for the simple fact that I know Tony will give the Chiefs 100% if he's not traded. He just needed to put this out there to keep his options open and allow the offers to come. There's nothing there about a demand, just making his wishes known. I hope we keep him. He's a great player and much more than "just a TE." He produces like a top flight WR and demands the kind of defensive attention a top flight WR does.

There's a part of me that would like to see the Chiefs go ahead and let Tony, LJ, and Waters go, then proceed to go to and win the Superbowl within 2 years.
In reality though, I have the same mentality with these guys as Denver should have with Cutler - You're under contract, shut up and play!

It seems like every year Gonzo whines like a bitch about something. Our version of Cutler, I guess.

I'm getting really tired of his gas.
Love your work, Tony, but seriously, shut the **** up already. You're a future hall of famer, a multi-millionaire and will absolutely get a job as an analyst when you retire. Stop acting like you're a leper begging for change. |

It will be nice when all these previously coddled veterans are gone. I've been a loyal Gonzo fan since the day he was drafted, but this is ridiculous. Clark is doing everything possible to build a winning franchise. Considering all the money he's paying these players, it seems to me that the least they can do is shut their burrito holes and focus on learning the system and making plays when their number is called. Even if TG is traded, he only has short odds that he'll go to a franchise that will find their way to the Super Bowl. That's why they play the games.
I'm weary of this drama. FAX |

Hey Tony, with the throwback uniforms, consider yourself a Texan. 2 games into the season you'll get traded to the Chiefs.

Just wait, "a asshole" will be along shortly to explain why he's worth a late 1st/early 2nd. And if you have the urge to agree with my previous statement, save yourself the hassle and don't.
